Hello,
I have two 028S's and run 3/8's .050 full comp. on a sixteen inch bar and they cut great. I run the same set up on my 026. This way I can one size of chain for all my saws.
I understand one might want to use the same chain on different saws, I might upgrade the 026 later ........ I will consider full comp on the 028 but the 066 is fitted with full skip, I can standardize between those two and probably will, but,... I just want the 028 to turn the chain in hardwood , oak etc.
I believe an 028 would keep the chain speed up and cut smoother with .325 .050.
You will get a lot of vibration with full skip. I would forget that. Semi skip vibrates bad enough.
The whole idea should be to use chain that the 49cc saw can pull and stay in its best power band; the best way to do that would be to go with the smaller cutters as opposed to fewer cutters.
I agree with you on the vibrations. I use 3/8 full comp and the saws do have more vibrations than with the .325. But with the use of a 16 inch bar the saws will nicely saw within the powerband. I always use sharp chain!!!! Thats the key to running 3/8's on a 50cc class saw. Well let me restate that " Sharp chain is the key on all saws". I converted my brothers 028 to 3/8's. The first this he said after using the same saw for 15 years was " WOW Bro, this chain cuts awsome!!!.
Regards,
I liked the term staying in the best power band to fit the saw, I ran a 1.6 -.325 - 20" , It does well until I loaded it with 20" of oak then it got slow.... I think I will go down to the 1.3 -.325- 18", making those few changes should help.......thanks for the input
