Booned
Well, like an idiot, I tore the carb boot last night while cleaning it up. . Anybody have a spare?
Well, two tanks thru her and I like it. Comp is up to 160. I still might take the jug down some more, down around .018 to .020. I bought a loop of Stihl Full comp for it an it pulls the 18" bar good in some hard oak I had laying around. So far so good. Now the next question......to port or not to port?
I would not port. The cylinders are out there, but arent cheap and as plentiful as they used to be. If you ruin the jug, good bit of $$$ for a replacement. I have been looking for an 028 Super cylinder for a while and no luck. Everyone wants to sell the P/C combo, and I aint springing for an OEM cylinder.
That much $$ huh? I am happy with the power it has now, but you know how this modding thing goes, trying to squeeze the last ounce of power out of it. Anybody ever port an 028 super?
Well, 15 years after this thread was started, I finally picked up an old 026. I’m not sure I agree with peoples opinion on the 028/026 debate. The 026 is a Pro series saw. I have finally ported and muffler modded it. -And wow.The 028 AV Quick Stop I have is 43 cc. ,2.8 hp and 11.5 lbs powerhead only.
They are a slower torquey engine but once ported and muffler modded they come alive.
The 028 Super I have is 51.5 cc, 3.3 hp and 12.3 lbs powerhead only. It is faster and more powerful than the 028 AV and also benifits from porting and muffler modding.
The 026`s I have is 48.7 cc., 3.5 hp, 10.4 lbs powerhead , they are faster revving saws, don`t have the torque of the 028`s but can make up with cutting speed in small stuff, they also respond well to porting and muffler modding, the MS260`s are basically the same as a 026 but have the intella carb and a bit better air filter, need the carb replaced if ported and muffler modded.
I prefer the 026 and MS260 for smaller wood and limbing trees once brought down by a bigger felling saw.
The 028`s are better suited as bucking saws for smaller firewood but do an ok job of felling smaller trees in the 6-12" on the stump. IMO
