029super any good?

I bought an 029super at a flea market today without knowing much about it.It has good compression and looks like a new saw.I Got it home and drained the old mix,poured in some fresh, cleaned the filter,checked the sparkplug and she fired on the 4th pull.I read on a thread here awhile back that if it said "super"then it was a good saw,anyone agree with that?Thanks all. Big Dan

If the price was right then you got a good firewood saw. They're generally durable and reliable machines.

I think the super is a 56cc compared to the standard 029. A little more power.

You have just opened a can of worms too, there are a lot of dummies here that hate the 029. It is a little bit tougher to work on(than a "pro" model) but a good saw none the less. congrats

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh he did a good thing. Heck we haven't had a good 029 slug fest in abits, I'm up to the task, sides Joatman says I must fight or he's taking the title away from me,LOL

Big Dan the Stihl has sold millions of those 029's and they keep on selling and selling so they can't be too bad.

If it was cheap, you have to wonder if it was stolen.
I've never seen a good one go much under $200.

That's certainly possible... still, it may as well be owned by someone who will use and appreciate it. At least HE didn't steal it. If I saw a 290 at a flea market for cheap, I probably wouldn't ask a lot of questions.. I'd be doing a jig!

Provoced to say something; I never ran an 029 or 290, the MS390 (Euro one, rated at 4.6hp) makes me want to avoid that.....

029 super is a good firewood saw

I've heard that the 029 super has a piston 1mm bigger than a standard 029. Never the less, 2 of my good friends use them 18" .325 chisel RS with good results in 12"-20" Oak. One of my friends has used his for about 6-7 years cutting 4-5 cord per year. The only repair he ever did was last year when he replaced the fuel line.

Another good thing about the MS290 is you can take it to the dealer for any problems. Try doing that at Lowes or home depot with your 455 crapcher:biggrinbounce2:
