Easy now...

Hey, folks, be nice to Big Dan and his new saw.

He just bought himself a new used saw in what looks like good condition, but fully aware of that he don't know much about either the model or that particular individual. That's when we should just pad him on the back and say "Congrats, hope it will work out fine for you, happy sawing." It's already bought, and will hardly be covered by the Stihl 7-day-take-back-guarantee no matter what, so he will most likely have to find out all for himself what he bought, be it good or bad.

When he comes back in a few weeks and asks about our opinion on buying a second 290 and maybe a 390 as the big saw on top of that, then it's time for us to speak our mind more freely, if need be.

Besides, looking at his earlier posts it seems he likes to buy saws he finds quite suddenly and check them out for himself, irl so to speak. At his current rate he's going to gather a lot of experience pretty fast, that can't be all wrong.

Peace.

What is it with the scandinavians and the 029/039 ??? Must be since the nazi's stole the "heavy water" from them during WWII :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

I'm Scandinavian, and I'm not a fan of those either. But here's the deal...

We don't have the 290 or 310, just the 390. But seeing how Stihl chosed to price the 260, 280, 390 and 361 it' pretty clear that they want us Scandinavians to buy only the 260 or the 361, none of the others, not even the 280.

But for the discussion, as the 390 is so close to the 361 in price, lets say that the 310 would be close to the 280, and that the 290 were close to the 260 if the 290/310 where available. Would you still say that the 290/310/390 would be the better deal? Of course not, didn't think so, and that's our base for reasoning.

I do know your prices are different, a 390 is just slightly more than a 260, and that changes the perspective some, but it's probably to hard to remember for us...

For quite some time last autumn Stihl priced the 390 equal to the 250 and at that price I actually gave it a thought myself, but now when it's back at 361-ish prices there's nothing to consider.

You got all that right, the 390 and 280 both are only about 10% less than the 361 here ( 270/290/310 n/a), most of the time - so it is nothing to consider......

That is US spesific, but I am not a fan of the 455 either........;) :D

Yea, but you need to take it to the Dealer when you need to brush out your cylinder fins on the 290. That is such a big job on the Husky, I'd hate to try and unscrew 3 screws and have access to all of that. I like the 290 setup much better, take it to the dealer and let them deal with it.

You have no idea Saw Troll!! :D ;)

If you think the price of professional help is expensive, consider the cost of being foolish.
