031 new one on me?????????????

It is a bit hard to tell from the pictures if there is any deep scoring of the cylinder between the port and the head of the cylinder. I can see some marking there but can't tell how deep it is. There is a couple of lumps below the port, are they carbon or metal lumps? What does the piston look like? Does it have any scoring down the side? Have you done a compression test on the saw? I'd hate to see you throw away a serviceable cylinder
What diameter is the bore? I have a 44mm piston and cylinder in good condition.

Sorry inside the muffler....

I had an 031 with a rattling muffler. The baffle inside came loose. It was time consuming but I cut the muffler open and removed the piece then welded it back together. Didnt seem to be that much louder. Ended up selling it on ebay.

The hard coat is gone..I put a little acid and did some sanding in hope it was transfer but it is not..

Yes, the other wire goes to the points.

Were you able to check for spark or did you already have the cylinder off???

I was cleaning it up..I did not want anything getting in the way of the new points...

Actually I was tightening the flywheel nut when I noticed the smears....

doesnt stihl have one of the atom units

Last time I ask the stihl dealer there still available

But i think you cant use them on the 031 if I remember right

the unit has a Stihl Number about 15 to 25 bucks

Well I found a few things missing..

The little clip for the throttle linkage....

muffler gasket......

one spark plug.....

Will know more latter.....

The part number for the Stihl trigger unit is 1118 400 1001, the handy little
bracket is 1113 405 1901

Ok so I went out to my bench and found the missing clip....

I also went without the muffler gasket till I found out if it needs one....

So anyway it is all back together and as soon as I can we will see if it runs.....
