I just picked up an 038av super this past week, and it looks like it hasn't been run in years. So, I figured that it was time for a carb kit, new plug, ect., but when I went to the stihl dealer he said the carb wasn't origional. Apparently it is a tillson carb, and I am wonder if I should keep it on the saw or switch back to the origional (bing)? Or is the dealer wrong and this is the origional carb?

I just show a Bing for the saw, an earlier owner probably had a stroke when he found out the cost of the carb kit and changed it. Take it apart and clean it and reassemble and see what happens.

I've run across qutie a few 038 AV's and 038 Super's that have Tillotson carbs. I agree with Fish. It should be a Tillotson HK series carb, if so fix it up and run it.
