My good buddy lives in Western Washington and it looking to rebuild the carb on his 038 Super. The local Stihl dealership quoted him close to $60. for a rebuild kit! The specific carb he has is a BING. I called my local Stihl dealership and asked them about the carb kit. They said all 038 items have been discontinued. He also told me that anything with a "0" in front of it is very quickly being completely discontinued. :( Someone, somewhere must have this carb kit? I know EBAY is a good source to find one.........but he rather find one locally within the Northwest Belt. If anyone knows of a source, please speak up. Thanks

Your dealer is full of manure. I just brought a bunch of internal and external parts for one of my 038s last weekend. He could still get parts for the 50 and 52mm cyl assys, gaskets seals, filters................

$60 for a carb kit seems a bit much too, I purchased a complete engine gasket/seal kit (OEM) for $16

It's been discussed on here before, Bing is a good carb but the parts costs will make your arse wink

My friend also wanted to know if maybe he should just junk the BING carb and get the appropriate Walbro carb that came stock with the 038's? What the best way........money well-spent that is? (replace carb or just rebuild the BING?)

I could be wrong, but I thought tillotson was the only other carb they put on them except bings.

badabing

Yep, only remember Tillotson and Bing on an 038, with the Bing being the better carb. The Tillotson used a phenolic metering plate that wore and is NLA, as far as I know.
If you find a cheaper source for the kit on a Bing, please let us know.

Oregon has one for the Bing for the 038. It's only the gaskets but it's less than 8 bucks. Ask your dealer for it, its part number 49-868. If you can't find it I will get one for you.

We don't pay any more for the Bing kit than any other - EXCEPT the NON-Stihl Bing kit does NOT come with a metering needle... Not big deal though - you don't need it as it's not adjustable like the metal levers are.

Windrosa is the manf of the aftermarket Bing kits we use.

The Bing carb is the best choice for the 038.

Hey Andy, what is your dealership price on a carb kit for the ol' Bing? Thanks
