after tacking the flywheel back together reassembled the saw cranked and ran for a few seconds, again no fire. started just to mash it. guess i toasted whatever was under the flywheel when i tacked it. now what? first impulse, smash with sledge hammer. guess it was good thing i just walked away.
went to two different stihl dealers, they said get rid of that pos and buy this $700 saw. sorry but right now after buying christmas for two kids , i dont have that kind of smack lying around. never could get the flywheel to come off so i could look under it, dont know if it is points or electronic. asked dealer about pulling the flywheel, they said at least two hours at $65 an hour. i only have about $100 in the saw without the bars and chains. on top of that they also made it clear they werent very interested in even working on the saw to begin with.
i kow alot of you dont like the 041, but this is my firewood saw, and i know it aint much. but it has grunt and i like it. any ideas to get the flywheel off without the right puller. flywheel probably junk now anyway! somebody point me the right way on this please, thanks....

If you can't get ahold of the right tool try this

tap in a few wedges under the flywheel and tap on the end of the crank. repeat tightening wedges and tapping on crank. A yeah yeah I know what can happen to bearings/seals etc. but I have removed many this way.

Don't get frustrated

I started with a 041 for the first serious saw.
I had to remove my flywheel once, piece of cake:

remove the nut until it is flush with the end of the crank.
Put some force with screwdrivers, etc prying up against the case.
Now smack the end of the shaft with a good solid and deadly accurate blow.
Cha-ching! Paydirt! Underneath you will find a set of breaker points, and the coil.
Good luck.

flywheel is off

it has been welded before, on the inside, factory welds just dont look that bad. well the magnets have comeoff the flywheel and hit the coil. does that kill the coil or do i just need a flywheel. is there any way to turn this thing over to electronic. either way, does anyone have the parts i need to get going they would sale. i guess i need a flywheel and a coil, or the entire electronic setup, used of course. no sense in going to the local dealers on this stuff. i dont have to travel to get made fun of i can do that in the comfort of my own home. thanks guys............
