i have 3 early 10mm angle finned cylinders ,but all have different markings on them ,has anyone else run into this ? the one on the saw i know is an early production 10mm saw ,the 2 that are off ,one is marked mahle ,one is blank ,tops of cylinders on all 3 have different #s also ,all 3 have the D shaped head also ,if look closely at the intake one looks bigger than the other unless i am seeing things also

and this one on the saw ,i know is an early 10mm 044 ,crank, flywheel, cylinder and piston were robbed from an early 044 and put in a 440 chassis ,this is a real good running saw for being bone stock ,lot of tourque

It would be KS overlapped right beside the number. It's kolbenschmidt brand. The intake looks bigger on the one on the left. Could you measure the combustion chamber on them?

The running saw is a KS cylinder forsure.
whatever ks means ,that one sure runs good that is on the saw

the one off on the right stamped mahle on bottom ,has a meteor piston next to it ,i had that an another 440 chassis ,it ran pretty strong ,but different than the full 10mm one that is together ,the 12mm saw has a mahle 046 jug on it now ,it is stronger yet with that one

i kept the ks one on the left in all the images and mahle in rh of all images ,the intake port looks larger to my eye on the lh one ,it will have to be later to measure them both ,i don't have them with me here

also the ones with that ks stamp both have the original 10mm pistons with them still ,the mahle must be off a 12mm saw maybe ?

I have a Mahle 10mm piston and angle fin cylinder in the shop.

I notice yours is sized for the A piston. My Mahle is B I believe. I'd guess the KS were the earliest of the 10mm cylinders. KS also made the early 064 cylinders best I can tell.

i have had a lot of 440 cylinders now ,the one on the saw is the strongest stock one i have ever ran ,the decomp ones don't compare in tourque ,nor the strait across non decomp ones ,you can lean on that one a lot harder than the others and it keeps going ,i have a metal tag 066 ,i am curious what brand it is now ,that saw has the you can lean on it hard attitude also

I have a 12mm 044 that runs pretty good. I haven't pulled the cylinder to compare it to the 10mm cylinders I have. Maybe one day....

Not to confuse by talking about different saws, but comparing the KS 064 cylinder to the Mahle non decomp 66 cylinders I have, the KS has a lot more square port shapes than the mahle, especially the transfers. The KS transfers are square like the Husky quad ports, the Mahles are rounded....

Thats a mahle 10mm piston that goes with that cylinder. I notice your KS piston has the ears on the side, the mahle don't.

ears make the piston heavier ? or just better support ? what does the a and b piston mean ,this is the first iv'e heard different pistons

I'd think both. I don't know their reasoning behind it, But I would think the piston with the wings-ears would be more stable in the bore at top and bottom dead center.

They's very VERY little difference between them, but they is some difference in the bore size I believe. Some pistons are even marked AB and fit both. Ive seen post from Lakeside that said the difference between A and B cylinders were less than 2/10,000. I always try to to match the letters up if possible. A lot of OEM replacement pistons are marked AB for both.

Even Meteor puts the letter on their replacement pistons....

Something else I learnt the other day, the ++++ symbols indicate changes made. That KS off the saw only has 1 +. The KS on the running saw has 2 +, so the other cylinder would likely be earlier than the one on the running saw. Your Mahle have 5 +, both my mahle have 6 +. I'd be interested in getting a closer look at a KS 044 cylinder.
