I have a few questions about a cylinder swap I am trying to do. I ended up with a new cylinder for an 075,076,ts760 and was hoping to pop it on my 1111 series 051. I ended up with the cylinder with the rounded base rather than the one with the square base like the 051, I have been told that there are two versions and of course the one I don't have is probably the one I should have. I knew I would need studs and nuts so I picked them up at a stihl dealer.
once the saw was apart I discovered a few glitches. the easy ones are that the studs are a diferent size, not a big problem as I happen to have the correct size tap. I have no problem with retaping the case but once I do there is no turning back so I wanted to run the more troublesome questions by some more knowledgable folks.
there is a slight clearance issue on the cylinder deck. about .030 on each side and it is only at the apex of the curved part of the cylinder base. The clutch side is not a big problem as there is lots of room the flywheel side will require a bit of metal off the vertical flange, but nothing that should cause any worries. I figure I will need a few extra .001's clearance for heat expansion issues but this is really not a troublesome mod.
The bigest questions are the intake and exhaust ports on the cylinder are slightly larger. so the short version of my question is will the plastic base for an 075,076,ts760 fit a Tillotson HS-60B? Next questuion is do I do a muffler swap and hope it all fits the rest of the sheet metal or do I modify my existing muffler which will require cutting the plate that bolts to the exhaust port and make a new one for the 075 cylinder?
Any one who has read this far is probably wondering why I would want to do this swap in the first place, and if you read this far you deserve an answer. I am a furniture maker and I mill all my own wood with this saw, and have been for the past 13 years. I have been given an obscene amount of walnut logs and will be milling them throughout the rest of the summer and could really use the extra 25cc. So far the cost of the swap is significantly less than a used 075 also I know the contition of my 051 and feel comfortable replacing the few parts it may need that I have not already replaced vs an unknown saw of similar vintage.
thanks,
