Rebuilding my old 051 after a loose screw was ingested through the carb and wrecked the cylinder and piston. Crankcase eventually came apart, leaving old bearings on the crankshaft. Now got them off which was a job in itself. However I don’t have a reference for the depth to which the new bearings sit in the crank case housings. I’ve got the small ignition side one in as far as it will go, using a flypress and also a socket and hammer, but it sits slightly proud of the housing. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? On the other side, the bigger one, the depth of the housing to the circlip is exactly the same as the width of the bearing which suggests it ought to be flush if hard against the clip.

Thank you.

Good question, oldsawukman.

I have an 051 too, but have yet to split the case. I was planning to until life with dying parents took precedence.
I am expecting my service manuals for this and 075/076 saws and can report back once I get into mine.

I got it all back together and working. I measured and remeasured and think that the smaller one does fit slightly proud. It certainly wouldn’t go in any further and when fully reassembled it spun freely. It is yet to be put fully to work so it may all blow up again of course.

@oldsawukman, I didn't hear back from you before our trip to the UK.

We went from London to Bath, Edinburgh, Dublin, Wales, and lots of other places, wrapping up with a visit to an online friend in Brighton.
Loads and loads of walking and travel on a bus. It was hard on my aching legs, back and hips, but an enlightening and enjoyable trip nonetheless.

How are you making out with the saw?
