I've seen a couple of 056 Super, or even Super Mag piston/cylinders for sale. I've got an 056, which runs well and I use often, but I've got other saws to work with, and it's fun to tinker, and who wouldn't want more hp, especially in an 18 lb saw? Can I swap out the 056 jug for a Super jug and piston, or does the crank have to be swapped too, due to differences in stroke length, pin diameter, etc? Will the bigger jug even bolt up to an 056?

Thanks, take care all,
Jeff

I'm not sure about those parts, but the carb will need to be changed out too, to supply more fuel, otherwise you'd probably ruin it with the carb that came with the smaller jug.

I mean you'd probably be running the engine too lean and basically have a lean seizure, which is quite bad.

The 056, O56 Magnum and 056 Super all use the same carbs (HS-118B or WJ-4B).

They all use the same crank 1115 030 400, so the stroke is the same.

When I tell my system to spit out the difference between the three models, it's mainly the Cylinder, piston, pin and rings. Carb box is listed differently, so it probably breathes a little better on the M or S

The crank case is listed as a different part number a -2113 or -2114, but I'd bet they are the same when it comes to mounting the cylinder - just some minor change in the casting or whatever.

The super jug will bolt right onto your 056. The only difference between saws is the bore size. The mag jug doesn't match the exsisting screw holes, but it could be done if you wanted.

No, you don't need to change the carb. All the 045s and 056s use the HS 118 A or B carb. My parts list also shows a Walbro, but I've never run across one of those. It shares the same high speed nozzle with 045s, 056s, and 075s. Quite adequate.

Plus, leaning out means an incorrect fuel/air ratio. If you use a small carb and tune it properly, it won't be fuel lean, just less powerful. Sort of like a 2-barrel carb vs. a 4-barrel carb on my pickup.

Only thing to watch for is, I've heard older 045s have a governor valve, like my 075. Won't hurt the 056, but will prevent from reaching max RPM...not a bad thing if you're not a good tuner, but it sucks when the valve goes bad.

Now, for the bolt up. Stroke is the same, wirst pin is fine. The problem comes in when you go to bolt the 56mm jug up. You'll have to machine the screw holes in the base. The 56mm barrel has a wider bolt pattern than all the other versions. Thus, the crankcase is different that way. Plus, the 056mm barrel has clearance built into the coolings fins to allow the exhaust pipe to pass. If you don't have the dual-port muffler, this isn't a issue.
