That old saw is a heavy brute a friend of mine has one that has very little hours on it the only time it gets used is bucking big big wood. My dads old 051 is a good saw just too heavy for general falling its a good bucking saw thou lots of torque no need to rev it up to high. When I was bucking 48" diameter fir you run brandnew chain at the time I was running a 28" bar your legs would get buried in saw dust.

I have had some people say to me oh a 066 can buck better than the 051 I said to myself I don't think so.

One thing you don't do is try start the 051 without using the decomp valve if you try start without I hope you don't have any feeling in your hands.

When a 051 kicks back it either rips the pull cord handle out of your hand or smacks your knuckles against the recoil cover. The 051 dad has has a decomp a excavation contractor that was working next door to my parents had a newer 051 and it had a decomp.

The 076 my friend has its also has a decomp valve all CND saws I don't think you could easily start one of these old saws without a decomp.

The same friend has a real old big Homelite bigger than the 76 it has no decomp I was told when it kicks back it will really hurt your fingers.

These old saws are a dying breed I don't know how somebody could work with a old 051 all day the viberation kills your arms.

051

Ever have the pump seal go bad and fill the cylinder with bar oil? Talk about ripping the cord out of your hand! Plus the fact it will never clean out the first time.

I have had a bad pump that didn't oil but never what you meantioned. The old 051s are good saws just if your working in big wood but no where near as good as a 066mag working falling in the bush.

Hello i am pretty shure the main diff. between a 076 and an 076 super is that there is no comp.release on the super ( at least there is none on the one i own ) I think this is because of the newer type pawl recoil starter. Where as the 075 and early 076,s used the shoe type with the grabbing edge. The pawl type engauges more towards the outter edge of the flywheel giving more leverage for the spinning over of the engine thus reduceing the need for a comp. release. All 3 saws are 111 cc and take the same crankshaft as a 051 I think also the timming on the super was altered a little to improve power ! All of these saws have loads of low end grunt i love to buck huge oak trees with them !
I've got an 076 super without compression release. The only thing that makes it a super is the intake is a high rise.
