I have an 08 vermeer bc1000xl autofeed issue. When we stick a larger log in the chipper it bogs down and will die if the log is large enough. I believe it is a sensor issue but have no experience with this chipper.

What should happen...when engine rpms drop below a set speed (droop value) the feed wheel should reverse momentarily. The engine (droop value) is factory set and determined by a plug in resistor module that can be changed in the field.

When the speed recovers forward feed is engaged.

If the feed wheel reverse circuit is not functioning as it should the engine can stall.

Does your BC1000XL have a Tach? If it does and its working the speed sensor is OK.
If no Tach check the LED on the controller (mounted in back of the control panel) marked Tach strength. It should be solid green, with the engine running full speed.

What must be determined...is this an electrical or a hydraulic issue?

The controller has a bank of LEDs that can help isolate electrical faults.

In addition to the above...

If everything is working as it should, the machine is ready to chip when the center light above the feed table (info light) is turned off.

Normally a blinking info light indicates the feed roller has stopped. It may chip with a blinking info light and a controller error condition, but the auto feed will not function.

My BC1000XL was formerly owned by a power utility. Smart feed was not functioning, it was intentionally bypassed. With a bit of rewiring now all is well.
