I compete in the Northern New York Lawnmower Racing circuit. It has a 12.5 HP Briggs & Stratton IC Engine. Race modified of course, It tops out at around 50mph, and placed 3rd twice last year.

How does thw lawn look afterward. Bet it leaves streaks on the corners.

That's top speed down the road on blacktop, the racing happens on dirt, around 25 - 30 mph. The 440 is a pro-stock class, the modifideds are closer to 50 on dirt. they will do 70-80 mph in a straight line. The big guys can run OHV twin cylinder. Mine has to be single cylinder flathead. The mods are widened out and lowered, mine has to be stock frame. you can see some racing on youtube.
