Well....I run two internationals (4700 and an old s1850).......

Owned a f350 dump automatic for 105,000, rebuilt the trans at 95,000, sold it at 105, trans was fine....

Maybe I'm lucky??

I prefer manuals myself. . . but I hate changing out clutches prematurely when guys beat them up.

six a one, half a dozen of the other.

thanks for all the information. I am a certified arborist and have been climbing for quite some time. I have experience in all aspects of tree care and until recently was managing for a tree care company in nashville. i have recently relocated to georgia and have initiated a new business. i happened to have the 550 which i bought in saratoga, ny for moving logs and firewood. i replaced the tranny soon after having bought the truck (probably why the guy sold it) and put on the heavy duty cooler. i finished my first job with the new chipper, 15" morbark tornado, behind the f550 and in the mountains at that. i havent yet built a large enough box for the chip bed but i had no problem carrying the chipper and am glad i didnt go smaller. thanks again for the input.

FORD SUCKS!! Thats the problem. I got a buddy thats 350 needed a new tranny (standard) after like thirtysomething thou- cost 2800 just for the part!! My old 88 GMC?? I just go to the bone yard and pick one up for under 5 hunge, done. That reminds me I should have that one sitting outside rebuilt...

We currently have 7 GMC/CHEVYS and 1 Ford if that gives you any idea of my personal preference.
