Got a choice between a used 266 and a used 365 Husky. I used to be a Husky dealer 20+ years ago an am familiar with the 266. Is the 365 a comparable saw and is it better in any way? The 266 is a few more dollars due to a higher trade in price the dealer paid. Any opinions would be appreciated. This will be a firewood saw to fit between my Sachs 116si and the 2100 Husky and 124 (?) Sachs.

get the 365 it has a little less power but is a nicer saw and will be dealer supported much longer.

Hmmmm - the power ratings I have seen for the 266xp is 3.2 kW/4.4 hp, while the 365 rating is 3.4 kW/4.6 hp.....:biggrinbounce2:

I allways wondered why there was a .3 kW difference between the 266xp and 268xp (3.5 kW/4.8 hp).

The anti-vibe and air filter system is better on the 365, and it has an inboard clutch.

Better get the 365.Many things are improved over the 266,like vibration system, better brake system, quieter exhaust also,no screws to remove the air filter, just a clip.A rubber intake intake instead of plastic block,so less heat transfer to the carb, larger oil cap and fuel.No long studs in the muffler, just bolts, better air filtration with air injection, the top cover is easier to remove too.And 365 are reliable with a good engine.

Wonderful! Got the saw home and the starter pawls only catch maybe 1 out of 6 pulls and even then it won't start. Back to the shop it goes!

Did they not let you start it and run it at the shop? That is one of the first rules of buying used saws. If you haven't at least seen and heard it run, you're taking a big risk on buying something that needs work.

Well let me solve the mystery for you the transfers are choked up.

so in the practical world they have the same power but the 266 shakes like a queer eating a hot dog.

Ah, the benefits of buying from a reputable dealer! Dropped it off at 8:00AM, picked it up at 1:00PM with new plug, starter fixed and an apology. Took it out and ran it a bit. Nice saw! NO VIBRATION at all. Seems to have good power. My only question is what exactly are these muffler mods you guys talk about? I assume you open them up somehow for better exhaust?

go to the top of the page in the chainsaw forum, go search, advanced search, then type in muffler mods, and select only the chainsaw forum. You will have days of reading, including ones on the 372/365 muffler. :deadhorse:
