How does the handle on a 288 clone come apart?I have an uneven gap between the throttle and the throttle lock, figured something was loose within the handle
How do sides come off?, do they just pry off?

Early original examples had a connecting screw to a central pillar, the later ones had a clip at one end and another clip back from the other end that clips into the hole the central pillar would be located in for the screw in model and is eased out by flexing outwards from a centralish location until the clip in the hole pops out.
Easier to google part # 503 484 501 and look at a picture of one rather than me trying to explain.
Possibly have a tank and insert out in the workshop if all else fails.

Nice. So you pry in the center, or the small end?
Centre, others might have a different- easier method. but I work a pick under around the middle if the long side and ease it up.
Not enough to deform the insert- but enough to ease the clip out. If you do bend it, gentle heat can help it resume a more natural orientation.
I have not worked with copy cat plastics- so they may not behave the same way.
