i'd like to put a 28in bar on an 066 but looking online at baileys all the 28 in bars say there 91 DL. is this a misprint? i'd prefer 93DL since the 28in bars on my husky's take 93. all the other bar length's are the same DL, whats up with a 28 in bar?

a 16in bar on a 357 or an 036 is 60DL / a 20 in bar on a 036 and a 272 and 359 is 72 DL/ a 371 and a 372 and a 044 with a 24 in bar all take a 84DL chain. a 395 ,394 and 066 with a 32in bar all take a 105 DL chain. a 385 and 288 with a 28 in bar are 93dl so again why is a stihl 28 in different

SO ROCKY
READ MY DAM QUESTION AGAIN. I ASKED SPECIFICLY ABOUT A 28 IN BAR.

WAS THAT TELL NOTHING ANSWER OF YOURS SO YOU COULD SEE YOUR OWN WORDS IN PRINT? SAVE THE BASIC GENERAL ANSWERS FOR THE HOME OWNER FORUMS I'M SURE YOU FREQUENT SO YOU COULD SOUND LIKE A BIG SHOT.

YES, I KNOW THE CAP LOCK IS ON BECAUSE I KNOW IT PISS'S YOU OFF, AND IF YOU WERE IN FRONT OF ME I WOULD BE YELLING AT THAT USE LESS ANSWER OF YOURS.

Hi KF Tree, drive link count is somewhat exaggerated for most saw/bar combos. This is to accomidate easily a 8 tooth sprocket and make installing a no- brainer, but after use, most chains are at least 2 dl to long. I prefer to shorten the chain so that the bar chain and sprocket must be mounted as a unit. This lessens chain slap and wear and also reduces chain throw.

i've always pretty much gone by what was stamped on the bar. theres so much foreign crap in the tree's where i cut we go through chains pretty quick. i never even take rakers down any more, after 3-4 tickles with a file the chains are pretty trashed any way. there never really run that long to get wayyy stretched out. i can't remember the last time i threw a chain. imo most of the stretch happens the first time a new chain is run, after that it's just a snug up in the morning.

Oregon f'd up their site.  They used to have a one-page chart with several makes/models and the chains they take.  I can assure you there are no standards for how many drivers on any given length bar and it's not just between Stihl and Elux that the differences arise.

The 28" Stihl bar has 91 stamped on it, but you really need 92 if you're using the 8-pin driver, or you can barely get a credit card between the sprocket and bar when everything's new.  93 might fit up just fine (for a while) if you don't mind a bit too much free run between the sprocket and bar tail.

If you get the 11-tooth nose-sprocket bar, the tail will have a fatter profile.  I prefer the 13-tooth tip, though, but it has a narrower tail.

Ken, Brian really did answer your question. -You are correct that in some lengths the driver count is the same but on some saws the same nominal bar lengths use a different driver count. Stihl does this on their climbing saws due to a different sprocket to front of saw spacing compared to other brands. On the other hand some barmount designs are simply made for a different drive count. SLH series 20 inch bars take 70 driver chains instead of 72 drivers like D009 series. The simple answer about a the 91 driver 28" bar for your Stihl is 1. Stihl is perverse. OR 2. Oregon is perverse.

Why Stihl chose that exact length and drive link count is anyones guess. Aftermarket companies like Oregon just copy what the manufacturer does. If you want to run 93 drivers just grind the shoulders off your studs and put the Husqvarna mount bar on it.

KF tree Different bar manufacturers sometimes make their bars for a particular application with different dl counts at the same called length. Its no big deal unless someone is wanting to match up to other chains he already has a quantity of. I sometimes find this in Tsumura bars vs Oregon and Windsor.

You found one inconsistency, so whats the big deal to get upset about someones answer. Maybe someone will be watching to see how specific and correct your answers are.

I think bar length is adjustable, like say a 16" bar is too much for your 066Mag, well simply lose two drivers and voila! You now have a 15" bar. Inversely, if that 24" bar isn't enough for that pepi 357- not a problem, simply add 4 drivers, elongate the bar slot and presto, you got a 26"er.

Thank's Ricky, it came in the mail yesterday. That was a great idea putting it in that hollowed out loaf of bread.
Thanks again.
P.S., I got a line on some new 281 parts from a dealer that went out of business some time ago, so will trade for more moonshine if that's ok.

Thank's Ricky, it will be in good hands with Fast Eddy, since he doesn't swear, drink or womanize. I'm still looking for a nice Christian girl for Ed.

Hey Ed, the KD385 is just breaking in after almost 500 tanks and 2000 or so trees.Should I rering it yet or let it get a bit looser? Ken said, let it get a bit looser and use some 927 and the high compression oil cap. Ran into Scott today and sold him some wood and he said to say hi and recalls when he worked for you in the woods. So he treated me good when I mentioned your name.
I almost had a heart attack last week when I drove over the KD385 with the skidder and just cracked the plastic housing at one of the clips. So I'm in the market for a top cover now.

Gypo , alot of people think Scott screwed them but i never had a problem with him on scale or grade or money , was always good with me.

i think Ken told you to drive over that 385 a couple more times then it should be real fast ,either that or when you are driving down the 400 at 80 mph, just throw it out the window, always makes them run better
