Hobby Climber, if standing on the roof and using a pole to tie up the branch works, I recommend tying it close to the trunk with throwball line and then put as many half hitches out the limb as you can do to secure any part of it that may want to break off. If you can't reach it with a pole, try using a lighter throwball so as not to jar the limb. Sometimes rubbermade trash cans fit over round skylights or rectangular rubber storage boxes.
It's good to trust your gut feelings. Most times when something goes wrong someone on the job site had a bad feeling about it but didn't say anything. I can tell by reading on this site that most climbers like a good puzzle and have a hard time saying no to a good challenge. At least I know I do.
