hi, i recently bought a sthil 460, i was told to use 150ml of 2stroke oil, to 5 litres of fuel. is this a suitable mix? would it also be suitable for a sthil 192?
All this meteric stuff is confusing to an american with a public education.
It looks like you end up with about 33 to 1 ratio. That is fine, although if you're using a good quality oil, you could go as high as 50 to 1.
At a leaner mix, you get a little less smoke while you run the saw, and less oily residue build up around the exhaust area, but the saw will have less lubrication as it runs. If you do run the saw at 33 to 1, just check the muffler screen for blockage every few tanks, and if it starts to clog, just pull it off and heat it with a lighter until its clean. Don't try to hold the screen with your fingers while you do this, not that i know from experience.
Sthil reccommends 50 to 1, and I wouldn't go any leaner than that. I mix my saws at about 40 to 1.
Depends what oil you are using. If it is regular oil than 40:1 is the richest i would go. If it is the new Stihl Ultra DO NOT go richer than 50:1, you will have severe gumming up from all the carbon.
Thanks guys, some good advice.
with brand new saws wondering if there is any sort of a break in process needed. Manual recommends not running the saw at full throttle until the 3rd tank.
