I've been surfing around the internet, and came across a 2.6 kW (3.5 hp) MS260 C. I've looked and cannot find the difference between the 3.5 hp and the 2.4 kW (3.2 hp) versions. I do know that a number of countries (not USA) still offer the 3.5 hp MS260. I am assuming it is exhaust and carb tuning, but I am not sure. Anyone out there know the difference, or is it just like muscle cars of the late 1960s..... Under-rated for legal reasons?

the muffler is more restricted in the US version. that part is easy enough to correct. you will then need an adjustable carb to tune it correctly. i think it is a walbro 194 (?).

My MS260 has a modded exhaust. I have a 194 adjustable carb. Do you think that puts me near the 3.5 hp mark?
I love that saw, and use it the most out of my others.

I did an exhaust very similar to Erick, but with a larger cut-out.

my brother has a husky 55 which is rated at 3.4. i MM my 026 and with the same chain, his saw still feels a little faster down low. when they are cutting in the upper range, i would say they are comparable.

you can mod fixed H 026/260

you just have to mod in small increments untill she blubern on the top like she should be, think of the muffler as the H jet and your kinda directly adjusting the H by opening up the muffler outlet.

dont mod the muffler if the saw is already burning the plug carhart brown or is alread blubering just right.

but chances are its very rich from the factory. elevation also plays a key to. my saw unmodded ran very rich at 3200. at sea level it might be just right for you

Exactly. I just modded a 270, it took about 10 minutes. I pulled the muffler and snuck a 1/2" drillbit under the deflector and done deal. Mine came very rich as well, to the point I had it leaned out almost against the cap just so it would cut decent. After the mod just turned it back against the cap to the rich side and good to go, runs like a whole different saw. In fact I was crosscutting red oak with the bar burried last night and it ripped through it more like a 361 than a 270. Great saw with a simple adjustment but extremely limited with the stock exhaust.

Walbro 194 vs 824????

I always assumed (yes I'm ignorant) that my MS260 Pro had a WT-194 carb on it. So I went poking through my IPL and it lists 4 different carbs (WT-426, WT-427, WT-590, WT-403A). I have bot H and L adjustments, so I knew it wasn't the WT-403A. I pulled the carb off, and found that it says WTE-824. This carb isn't listed in the IPL, and I can find very little info on it. Is the WT-194 a better carb?

My saw makes decent power and I am happy with it, and wouln't switch unless i'm missing out on easy power.
Also what's up with the WTE? I know most Walbros for 50cc are the WT and HD. I can't find any listing for any WTE carbs anywhere (only WT/WTA).

mine still has the fixed H and is running this muffler with a slight burble on top at 3200 and alittle more burble at 8000.
