I have a Walkerized 346XP, and my Dad has a stock 346XP. Mine pops on the second pull, then fires for good on the second pull after that. My dad's may take 7-10 pulls to pop, then is comparable to mine for starting. Both saws start very easy when warm. Both are virtually brand new. Any ideas???

Earache, I had a Stihl 036 Pro that did exactly the same thing. I would also be curious to know what causes this.

hard start

Has to be a fuel problem. The choke does not close completely, the fuel line leaks air in and lets the fuel drain back, the carb is not pumping due to diaphragm or bad seals, the fast idle is too low. Could also be just too lean.

hard start

Hello,Just a suggestion?Sounds like its starving for fuel.Remove the air cleaner element to check for the choke is going full closed.Mikey

Hey earache,

I am having a similar type of problem w/ my 346 but only 3 or 4 pulls. Wants to hesitate a little and will die if I try and juice it too fast on a cold start. But if I baby the throttle and ease it up a couple times it will work fine. Never have any warm start problems. My servicing dealer is gonna peak at it for me when I get a chance. He mentioned something about Husky having lots of problems with those carbs. I was in a rush so I didn't pursue the matter any further. Maybe your dad got a stinky one or walkers adjusted your stinky one when they "walkerized". Something stinks in denmark..uh I mean Sweden! :D

Maybe I`m mistaken, been talking to too many saw builders over the last few months, but I believe John Walker said they open up the passage way for the low speed jet just a bit when they "tune" a saw. My Walkerized 346xp starts easy, hot or cold, and pulls strong right from the bottom on up. I`ll bet that John would share that info with you if you called. Russ

hard start

Been seeing inlet levers too low in new saws. Makes it start hard and act cold blooded. This usually cures the problem. The rest need a low speed reset on the needle. 036 is notorious for choke that does not close completely. Linkage adj will cure it.
