Yeah, when they get in tomorrow to start processing the orders they're gonna wonder what the hell happened all of a sudden!

No, no eBay or anything - the 6401 is still around. I bought it to give to a buddy of mine, so he'd stop using my saws and so chains and bars and filters and such would interchange with my 7900. I dropped it from my signature because I figured now that he's put a number of tanks through it AND paid me for it, I really can't list it in my signature anymore. It is still living at my house, though.

Did you guys notice they rasied the makita TH 330 to $228 from $162 now. lmao, that will slow the sales back down.

Anyway, I ordered one. :)

My order might end up being cancelled. They wanted nearly US$90 to surface ship the saw to me. Plus they want me to process my visa card through a third party who will charge an additional 3.9%. :(

Have them ship it to me and I'll ship it to you. PM me if you're interested. I'll be gone until later tonite (2200 or possibly later, Eastern time), but I'll check my PMs as soon as I get home.

I was at a Husky shop today picking up some spark plugs, he has started carying Dolmars now, I was looking at the 7300 for kicks when I noticed this red tophandled saw. A redmaxx, I belive it was 34 or 36cc's 7.6 pounds and $236 i belive with a 14" bar.
Seemed to balance pretty well and the price was right.
Just something else to think about?

Don't know what the price is though, You might wan't to check into it.
I believe the Jonsered 2135T is the 334T, not the 335, but I don't really now.

It is listed here.

I have a Redmax 3100 that I keep as a spare. It's gutless compared to my 338XPT but it's nice and light. When I'm doing lots of branchy stuff it's easier on the shoulder. Starts better than any saw I've ever owned. Other than lack of power the biggest design flaw is the position of the on/off toggle switch. Really awkward to reach with your right hand unless you relax your grip. I added a short piece of fuel line to the end of the switch as an extender but it's still awkward.

Well, that Makita showed up today. Put it together, gassed it up, and took a couple pictures next to an Echo CS3000 for comparison. Total investment: $174.

The saw is plasticy, no way around it. It doesn't feel super cheap like one of those Wagner electric chainsaws, but the plastic does feel more crispy than that used on Echo and Stihl saws. The bar is a cheapie and I'll probably just replace it. Overall the saw is about the same size, weight, and balance as the Echo CS3000, possibly a little bit lighter. The only strange thing is that Makita suggests 25:1 mix whereas Tanaka says 50:1. Oh well, mine will have to try to live on the 40:1 semi-synthetic that all the other saws see - I'm not mixing a second can of gas.

The saw fired up quickly, idles nicely, and accelerates smoothly. I let it idle for a few minutes then made a couple cuts on split wood from the woodpile that was a bit longer that it needed to be. Most of it was split pieces, 3" to 7" triangles and half-rounds of dry silver maple and semi-dry red oak. I didn't have anything laying around that replicates the sort of stuff I usually use a climbing saw on, since I cleaned up the wood corner of the yard a couple weekends ago.

I do have a few takedowns lined up for next week when I get back from vacation, so I will be able to give it a good test then - a couple pines, some box elder, maybe an ash and a locust. So far it seems to have a bit more guts than the 30cc Echo, but I put maybe an eighth of a tank through it so far so I'm sure it will perk up after a few tanks.

When I get back from vacation around the middle of next week I'll pick up a couple matching chains and time some cuts and get some video.

UPDATE:

After two tanks, it has gone to eBay (#250016334380). I just couldn't get used to the feel of it, plus I kept bumping the on-off switch when I wore my usual cutting gloves which would shut it off mid-cut. It is kinda annoying, because the saw was actually pretty well balanced and reasonably powerful, even with just two tanks through it, and the price was great.

Oh well, it was worth a try.

The New Dolmar PS3410TH is now available and it has great power (1.9) for a 7 lb saw. The best part about it is the easy starting. Dolmar has a trick up their sleeve on this one. It's Made in Germany. Stop by your local dealer and check one out. Google ( dolmar ps3410th ) for a parts diagram and look at the starter assembly breakdown.

My local Dolmar dealer? That's funny. We have a couple around here but none of them carry any inventory or spare parts, and the only one around here who did stock saws and parts got his distributorship pulled. Unless and until they get their act together, the only thing that Dolmar is good for is the 7900 and 5100s, and then only if you're willing to source your own spare parts and perform your own maintenance.

I looked at the IPL for the saw, though, and it shows some whack little spring thing in the recoil assembly. If it is some Easy-2-Start type feature, that alone would be reason to pass on the the saw. I can't think why anyone in their right mind would want some damned silly little spring to help them start a 34cc saw - just another thing to break and for what? No thanks.

Looks like I'll have to either find another old-style Echo or just pick up a 200T like I should have in the first place. It seems my desire to try new and different things has proved short-lived.
