With all the talk about muffler mods on this site I just had to try it. I must say, my 350 needed it!
I use the crap out of it, mostly on oaks. It made a world of difference to do a muffler mod. Seems to have noticeably better power on the hard woods. Also, it gave it a meaner sound.

The new deflector cap just barely fits under the plastic cowel.

I opened the exhaust to about twice the diameter of the stock opening with a die grinder (original cap had to be ground off). I then had to fabricated a new deflector cap.

Still make use of the screen/spark arrestor. Screen can still be removed and cleaned if needed.

Local welding shop TIG welded the cap on the muffler for 6 bucks. Only 2 sides were TIG welded.

As a precaution, I laid some strips of 3M fiber glass tape to keep the plastic from melting. Seems to help!

Nice work brncreeper, the new deflector looks like it came with the saw. BTW, what did you do to your muffler to get it so dented? Russ

Is your name Tom by any chance? That`s not a joke, just remember a guy named Tom who also had a 350 mentioned pounding his muffler like that. Russ

Jokers,
Thanks. I’m not Tom my names Grant.

I used a DIN rail that can be purchased at electrical outlets such as Van Meter. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of one right at the moment. But if you go to any Van Meter outlet and ask for a DIN rail, you’ll see where I got the design.

The dents on the front of the muffler were from abuse…burying the 18” bar in large oak trees.
I have since purchased a 3120 for that type of work. I still use the 350 the most however.

I think I was still learning how to sharpen a chain too.:)
