Well boys and girls i got a new 357 and have put 4 tanks of gas threw it now , so now the timing begins . i will time it stock and see how much i gain doing a woodsman porting job,
this saw has alot of power it seems for only 57 cc, and i like the new decompresser design , no more pushing in the valve,
just pull the rewind , it does it all itself so gypo where is that 385 my 357 is hunger and looking to eat

Awesome

Cool, I'm sure I'm not the only one that eagerly awaits your findings. Looks like a fun little saw to throw around.

ehp,
The 357xp is a great saw! You will love it espeacially after you open up the muffler

Ed, I was looking at that new decomp design, as it is on the new 2156 Jonsered as well...which appears so far to be the 357 in prettier colors...haven't had a chance to break into the engine yet...
My personal opinion of the new decomp design is not a good one...it just gives something else to go wrong...while I do like the decompression feature, I don't like that hose hanging there waiting to get a hole...or torn...or rot out eventually...an air leak waiting to happen...I will probably just plug mine off when I get into building it...
Overall the saws (357/2156) are great runners!

time will tell on the hose
open up the muffler , boy this saw is going to get a hell of alot more than that, when i am done this thing better eat maple and crap balsa

well you guys do not really want to know, it's not fair
one log , frozen harder than hell plus 38 below today didnot help the cause
357 /16 inch bar new 3/8 chain one cut 6.74 seconds
this stock , never measured the log but should be 14 to 15 inch
did some mods to it and now i am down to 3. 89 seconds per cut
i have the motor apart and doing somemore llittle things
the plan is to cut in the high 2's with just a square filed woods chain not a race chain which i think is do able
now could someone change the lightbulb in the sun to a hotter one

Ed
Did you get that new decomp valve to flutter at 12500 or around 13000. I have seen a few of them that would open and shut at that speed. It must be their new governor set up.
I think that is the only Husky Pro saw that has an internal baffle in the muffler. I have no idea why they needed that one.
The sun comes out in the day time, when we don't need it. If the sun came out at night and the moon came out during the day, would it be light all of the time and warmer?
Think about it.
Later
Dan

maybe the sun comes out there down south but up here right now it is cold and the sun could use a couple 1000 more watts
no the valve is working fine but when you want to do a psi test i by pass it. time will tell if i keep the valve or not but i would think mow seeing where it is hooked in to that there should be trouble down the road plus with the porting there maybe not enough back pressure to shut it off at that low of rpm but by the weekend it will be tested and trued

rub it in now why don't you
well here at noon it was 21 below f, for you guys in the usa
and add a 20 mile an hour wind to that an we have frozen balls in no time
i will try to test tomorrow the saw is done and waiting , i had it over at the husky dealer and just turned my back , and that ???? 357 tried to mount one of those 385 , all i could hear was ,i make a saw out of you one way or another

Cold??? Seems like another shirtless day here. 7AM, no wind and temp is already 72*F.
Thanks Koa My wife read this now she want to go to Hawaii.
Hope you have a big house for us to stay in ?

Ed without giving away all of you secrets can you tell us a little about what you do to modify a woods saw.
Looks like you had good fairly gains before you went back in.

What is It

Woodsjunkie;

That tooth looks like something for cutting Ice out of the lake. It sure is curious looking!

Frank

well Eric i raise the ext. to the number i am happy with , widen the port to the numbers i want , the same with the intake port
on the transfers i widen them quite alot and raise them to
i cut the amount i want off the bottom of the jug because i want the gasket there and you need to raise your compression back up sents you ported the ext. port, transfer ports
on some saws i do work on the piston but that depends on what piston was in the saw to begin with
on a woodsaw i am looking for torque more than rpm's
like this 357 it turns around 9600 rpm's in the wood stock , i am looking for 10700 to 11000 now in the wood , more than that you are looking for trouble on a woodsaw, it would be not to dependable doing steady cutting hours on hours because it would get hot
there is also carb work and someother stuff as well
but i guess i should say this , i donot touch the flywheel, only on 3120's because i have to retime it because of the different coiland i time it back to the coils stock timing, i know there is going to be alot of guys tell me the i am nuts but i have never seen a gain with advancing the timing or what i get with the stock timing and if you understand fuel on how it burns and is running on high test pump gas then leave it alone
well enough for now i should some sh#t for saying that

Ed

You don't advance the timing for alky and nitro fuel? You must be running alot of propylene oxide.

Ricky

no PO in my fuel period
advancing the timing on nitro just causes you to run out of fuel faster
the more timing the more fuel you need to keep the saw running
plus you loss torque but yes it will rpm better out of the wood but after a couple of seconds it all over you are below the rpm you were to be at

The tooth is almost filled off and the raker has never been touched somebody better get some flat files and a raker guage :D

Ed,
Thanks for the info LOL I didn't figure on getting to many trade secrets. Looks like you have a good running 357 their.

Pacific
As far as that chain hum I don't think the tooth is almost filed off you had better look again. Believe it or not but their is almost .018 racker clearance also.
I really have no clue what I am doing.. But them again if you don't try different thing you will never learn what works and what doesn't..Just been to cold to work out side so I though I would scrap a few loops of chain..... You never know I could just be the next A. M. or T. F.

like i said before i have a video cam. but donot know howto put them on here
well it is to warm up tomorrow some and it is do or die time for the 357
i ran it today some in between working and did 2 cuts down and up , i feel you get alot better idea of your motor on a up cut because if you are under powered it will really show up on your up cut
i used a butt log of a popular that has been down for a month so it is harder than hell , i guess i could being them in to warm then up but i didnot
size around 14inches round
well the 357 cut the 2 cuts in 7.42seconds
i brought my 281 to compare it to .it has some porting done to it plus the muffler and runs strong it cut 7.34 seconds for 2 cuts but i think the 281 chain is not as good as the 357's is and it got dark before i could change much stuff, but i will tomorrow
but i think that there will be a bit gained but not alot plus i am going to pump up the 357 psi somemore and we will see how good the crank is
