I see there is a nylon and a felt type of air filter to choose from.
Anyone know the pros & cons of these two air filters ? Useage life? My first thought is that the nylon will let more air though (and dirt), but needs to be used in cleaner cutting environments. Also, does anyone know were to get a 357xp spare parts manual on the Husqvarana website ?

Nylon screen filters are cold weather filters. In theory at least they aren't as prone to icing freeze over. Out here in Vegas that isn't a problem so I can't say from experience how well they work but the manufacturers do not advise their use in warm weather because of the dirt injestion you mentioned.

My EHP357 has the screen type filter. It does allow my saw to breath better and does not need to be cleaned as often as the other filter type.

I worked on a J-red 670 for my friend that had one of those nylon filters (actually I thought it was some type of paper but nylon makes more sense). He was really unhappy with the filter system--clogged easy and hard to keep clean. I was pretty pissed to see all the fine dust in the carb throat.

So, we fabricated a backing plate and fit a Stihl HD filter. All that's left to do is die-grind out a small groove for the filter to sit in and add a little support for the base. Haven't used the saw yet, but we'll see how well it works soon enough.
