I need a new clutch cover (the cover that houses the chain brake and fits over the drive gear and chain) for my new 357 XP. An employee took the cover off while the chain brake was still on (at least this is what I think must have happened), and broke a molded piece that can't be fixed.

Is this part available anywhere besides the manufacturer?

Steven

If you're looking for a used one the 340,345,346,350,351,357, and the 359 all run the same clutch cover. We don't have anything used, but if you want a new one the part# is 537 10 78 01. It'll cost you $38.13 + 7.95 shipping. If you're in CA or TN you'll have to pay tax also. If you decide to go for it just call Bailey's @ 1 800 322 4539.

I can't imagine why you would you need the whole cover? Any of the molded (I assume you are referring to plastic) parts should be removable with a screw or two or they pop into a slot or recess in the side cover casting. At least they do on my Huskies.

But I'm sure I'm wrong again.

I had to satisfy my curiosity so I pullled a new 346 out of the box. The clutch cover on the 346 I have here is all metal. There is no way to replace any parts on it. It is just like every other clutch cover I have seem whether it is plastic or metal. I would think $40 would be a decent price since Stihl gets about $55 for one for a 046 and 066.

Well I guess our 346's are different Bill. Maybe I bought the $30K model.:D

My cover has several parts that can be removed with screws including a plastic molded piece that covers the brake band where it attaches to the interface with the chainbrake handle. That's what prompted my inquiry. I can't imagine how the metal side cover could become irreparably (sp?) broken because the chainbrake was left on.

In the end it really doesn't matter to me whether he replaces the whole saw or just a broken part.

I agree, I'm sure all parts are available separately, just as all other Huskys that I own are, as i have repaired most of them.

Just call Bailey's.

Newfie,

Well as usual I made a incorrect assumption. I assumed the actual clutch cover was broken. Yes if all he broke was just the small plastic cover over the spring then that should only be a couple bucks. I have seen a lot of broken covers that were broke for various reasons. I assumed this was another one. I have posted a pic of a 346 cover that should clear up the questions. If all that is broke is the grey plastic cover then it will be a cheap fix.
