357XP, where can I get a 9 tooth sprocket?

Where did you get the 8" bar to fit that saw? Seriously man, unless the saw is full out race ported, on alky, with a pipe and a cutdown bar in the 13" range for 8" wood, the saw is going to perform terrible. But, you can buy one from Madsens saw shop.

That is pretty odd, as my stock Euro MS361 sure has the guts to run a 8-pin 3/8" with the 15" bar, for limbing and smaller bucking (36RSC).

It is slower with the 7-pin, but not by much, really - just more fun to run it with the 8-pin.....

I have never tried the 8-pin with the 18" bar, and don't think I want to either.

It will run it.............just not to my satisfaction............remember I enjoy the torque..............it is all in your perception!!!

Thank you.
Its a stock 357XP with a Stihl 14" bar and the narrow PCM3 3/8" chain. If it doesn't work well with the 9 pin, I'll go 8.
Right now I can't even get the engine to lug down if I try with that chain in the wood and the 7 pin sprocket.

Time is everything to me and timing stock 361 with muffler mod was fasted in 9" poplar with 3/8 7T, it feels faster with 8T, but stop watch says different. Same thing with modded 357, 8T feels faster but 7T 3/8's was faster by the stop watch. Have 7T 8T and 9T in 3/8's and have noticed what might feel fastest by just seat of the pants ends up not being the fastest by the stop watch. I like the feel and little more torque of the lower rims also, stop watches dont lie. But whatever makes one happy. :biggrinbounce2:

So maybe it is all in my mind! I will time some cut's next time. It does feel faster but I could be wrong! Sometimes thing are not as they seem you might be right.

I found my 359 ported cuts fastest with a 3/8 8 both 16" and 20" bar. Even with an 8 the 16 inch bar and chain is a real PITA to get off and on. To go to a 3/8 9 the bar would need to be cut down.

Piped I think my 359 could pull 9 with good chain in 8x8 softwood, i'm still pushing pretty hard with 8 tooth gear and fairly low rakers.

325 9 would not make much sense, 3/8 8 will be faster. If your talking about a non race saw with factory chain forget all about more than a 7 or maybe 8 pin 3/8.

The small spline drum can be changed out to large spline, but it requires that the oil pump gear be swaped or modified.
