Well I went out today and fired up the new saw. I mixed the gas a little rich just to be safe 40:1 ratio and headed out into the bush. I found some big white pines near the minning road I was on and started my new saw up. Two pulls with choke on and one with it off did the trick for starting her up. I cut a 10" poplar down first to get the feel for the saw and then headed over to a 18-20" white pine and made my notch the saw chewed into the pine like butter came across the back side and it took maybe 3 secs and she was down. I was impressed the saw never lost any rpm in the pine so the next tree I made my notch and dug the dogs in and pulled hard into her and tried to bog her down the saw lost maybe 200rpm and started humming like it liked it! Now I have a grin on my face and some others in the area heard me cutting so they came over and I showed them the new husky and how it cut. Before long everyone was trying it out and all were impressed with the way she cut. Great day out in the bush we cut up 20cds and I wasn't even tired at the end of the day. The only thing I don't like about it is the kill switch is hard to turn to on with gloves on.I think stihl killl switches are in a better spot. The 372 compares to the 044 I once used to run but the powerband semms narrower I won't have a real good test until I reset the carb.

I believe the powerband of the 372 actually is a good bit wider on the 372 than the 044/440 (both high and low), because of the four channel porting, but the peak torque is a bit lower.....:) :)

It always felt to me like the 372 definately had more lugging power than the 440,but the 440 seemed more of a screamer...You can't really feel this until you go up to a 28 inch bar on both saws and head for some hardwood...The 372 loves a 28 inch bar with skip chain.....I haven't tried a longer than 20 inch bar on my 575,but will soon...The 575 definately feels like it has one up on the 440..It is a very comfortable saw to run as well

Why no more posts about the Queen of Saws......

Don't worry Sawtroll one day I'll buy me the "Queen" and get you the thread you want. Give me some time and we'll get your saw the justice its due. From what all I've read about the 372 its a goodie. Just needs a proper write up to give it some personality, the trademark of The Champ!!

I've run the 372 vs the 440 over and over and over again...:bang:
Does anyone notice that my line-up does not include the 372:D ...
I'm not knockin' it,it's a good saw,but I'll take my 440

Well Timber enlighten us about your use of the 372. I've only run one for a few cuts. I thought it was ok, we compared it to a 044 and 046. I felt the 372 and 044 were real close in the cut and the 046 tookem both easliy. Whats your experiance with those saws?

He he, you probably have been bevildered, among all those saws of yours..........:buttkick: :rockn: :rockn:

The usual conclutions here has been that the 372 is right on the heels of the 460 in actual cutting, and the 440 is an "also-ran" - I have used a lot of energy "defending" the 440 against bwalker, Jokers etc, based on specs and dyno results - but I finally tossed the towel in.......

The 371/372 has always seemed to bring me bad luck....I had a brand new one break a crankshaft once,I've been cut once by a 371,once by a 372,and a few years back,I was falling a massive pine tree at a customer's lake house, for the first time in twenty years,I missed my target and hit the overhang of the house...10 grand worth of damage...I haven't run a 372 since.

Yikes you have had some tuff luck but overall whats your opinion on those saws performance wise?

:sword: he he......

One or two bad saws doesn't mean anything - refer to what I said on the MS280 tread........:bang: :bang:

You'll get no argument out of me on that Sawtroll. Things happen to all models no matter the brand. I was just curious about Timbers thoughts on those saws since he's a tree man. I'm hoping he'll come back and talk about how he felt about them performance wise.

Dammit!

I don't blame you for switching up either!

I felt like the 372 had more low end power, but the 440 seems more of a screamer......In big wood, the 372 will outpull the 440 by a little....I like either a 20 or 24 inch bar on the 440 while the 372 seemed happiest with a 28 inch bar and full skip chain...The 440 is a little more comfortable in my hands and it seems much lighter at the end of the day...But the 575:clap: ...that is the most comfortable saw I've ever used,it seems to have a noticeable amount more grunt than the 440...even more so than the 372.

Sounds like a fair report to me. I only made a few cuts with a 372 and it reved up and moved pretty good through the log we were using, about a 18-20 inch log. The 044 did seem to wind up tighter, or scream as you put it, but cut no faster than the 372. They were close in the cut. The 046 though, it put the hurting on both quite easliy.

You like the 575, cool beans. That saw has had some ruff reviews on the site but of late it seems to be finding it's admirers quite well.

Good post Timber.
