is the dolmar 7300 in the same class as these two? looking for new saw and have never seen or used a dolmar before, but everyone seems to think the 5100 is quality are the rest good too? I love my stihl and husky but i have room for another company. What do you guys think:greenchainsaw:

I would recommend a 7900 instead of the 7300,same weight more power and a little more money.
I can also say the 441 is more money, but that thing is sweeet!

for same weight would it make more sense to go for a 7900 dealer says only 50 dollars difference between 73 and 79

Thats cool, but I believe that the 7300 also will beat the Stihls in the cut, at least it has more power output.....

think i will go for the 7900 does anyone have a quality review? weight to power wise must be great but looking for service historys, known problems?

History is tough to find and quantify if sales volumes are low. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the 7900... I'm just answering the question.

Stihl has aready sold "several" thousand MS441's in the USA alone. I know that there are close to zero issues, and a bunch of them have been in the hands of loggers for the past 6 months that use them all day, every day...

The 440 - everyone's favorite, a rock solid saw and with a 12 year history. Still available for another couple of months... There are no "unknown" issues with this saw!! I might have to buy one of the last myself and shrink-wrap it..

i like older makita tools was dolmar bought by makita or a makita invention? Any other saws with simular power to weight? any one know a good ne dealer?

Jeff

Dolmar started out in 1927 in Germany they are the first producers of a portable gas powered chain saw.

They merged with Sachs in the mid 70's and Makita bought Sachs part in the early 90's now it is owned by Makita but still is made in Hamburg, Germany where they originally started.

I've only had my 7900 a few months, but it makes a strong impression. I don't think the build quality is quite up to a 440 or 441, the chain tensioner is marginal in my view, mine is a little puddler, is a bit thirsty and a couple other smaller nits.

But I say that anyone that runs saws much in that cc range should at least try one out. The smooth even power response must be tried to be believed. With everyone that has run mine had their eyes bug a bit and they started thinking they needed one as well (although I don't always tell them the chain is square ground). I personally would not be willing to have the 7900 as my only saw as I don't know about long term reliability and I already know no one stocks parts within a hundred miles of me. But I think it is the first saw that I actually find myself looking forward to running.

My 7900 was a joy to run and in certain respects I regret selling it. However, the parts issue and the "nits" as they have been called ultimatly pizzed me off one too many times.

Ok, I've decided in the last few days to finally replace the 039 that got swiped last winter. Been going over some of the 361, 440, 441 and 372 discussions and I think I'm calling my dealer tomorrow to have him get me a 441 Arctic. This saw should take care of my big saw needs probably for the rest of my life so I'm gonna get what I want. I hope it's what I want. Probably would go for the 361 if it came in the Arctic. Most of me can handle the cold ok, but my hands get cold when running the saw. Thanks for all the discussions, and I know any of the saws mentioned would suffice, the 039 did for 4 years, but I want the Arctic.
