That's not an issue on any Stihl Arctic models. The carb heating element is thermostatically controlled. Turn it on and forget it.

I believe you are right, but the User manual of my new 372xpg is a bit bewildering - it says it is thermostatic, but also warns that it should be turned off after 3 minutes......:confused: :confused:

interesting. What is always fun is to compare different saws between manufacturers. How do you line them up??? By cubic inch? by horsepower? by weight????

my Dolmar 7900 was 700 bucks out the door with a 28 inch bar and chain. So what can I get from Stihl for 700 bucks??
My 7900 is I believe over a pound lighter then a 460. What can I get from Stihl for the same weight???
Which Stihl has as much power as the 7900?????

The 28 inch bar means I won't use it for EVERYTHING, but I will say if I put the same bar as my 55 rancher, I bet they'd be about the same weight.

I'm lucky. I've got a great Dolmar dealer, and no local great Stihl dealer.

That's right I believe, but the OM is again not quite clear on the subject....

Btw, the handle heating is very efficient on mine, more efficient than on my other saws. :)
 
Believe me when I say that the carb heater when operated in temps above 0 will boil the fuel and lean the saw out. I have had this happen on a 20 degree F day and have since disconected the carb heat wire.
I have never had a carb ice up anyways and I have operated saws during the winter for years.
