After owning a 372 XPG I dont think I will be buying a saw without heated handles if available.
That we can agree on, no doubt.....:rockn: :rockn:

... the 3 newest saws I have all have heated handles, and they need to.

Thanks for the input. Hearing from you all that have the heated handles recommending the heated handles helps my decision. I was unsure how much of a difference they made.

I have never run a saw with heated handles. What is the disadvantage of the heated handles beyond the price difference? Weight, reliability? Is it simply some coils in the handles? Are the handle grips thicker because of the heaters?

Is there a switch to turn them on and off? Any other difference in heated and non heated saws?

Totally ignorant on this, and have wondered about it.

handles

I've been trying to dig up articles, when I find them I'll send'em to ya. They are electronic. On the Stihls there's an on/off switch. They work really well, I've only seen one, purchased from a state auction by my cousin...

Here ya go:

I'm buying a 7900, just decided matter of fact. Was going to get a 73 but hell, for another $50 and alot more umph, why not eh? I'm getting mine from down in Greenwich, NY. Click the link below bud. Your in my neck of the woods for my VT Territory I believe. There's a bunch of dealers over there.

So you know, I have an 044. I love that saw, probably one the nicest most comfortable saws I've ever used, next to the 288XP, for all around working. I'm buying a Dolmar just to be shake things up a bit. before I'm done I'll prolly own alot of different saws. For me it's something I've really come to be interested in, and now that I know there's such a large following of people it makes it even better. Good luck with what you decide to get...

Weight only, 3 or 4 ouces on small saws, about 7 on larger ones.....

You turn the heat on and off with a switch, yes.

How about a real saw for Samantha????:greenchainsaw:

PS-5100?

Ok, a couple more questions. Stihl lists the 460 at the same weight and .5hp more than the 441. Why not throw it into the mix? Big price difference? I didn't see the decompression valve listed for the 441, but I'm sure it has it, doesn't it?

Yes, why not - and the 372xp/2171, they are known to outperform the 440, and be right on the heels of the 460, if you read to the library of old tread on the topic here at AS.....:biggrinbounce2:

More like the other way around.

Yup...The 372 really flies. The stock 460 isn't that impressive for its size IMO. A port job and a BB kit really wake the 460 up. LOL

I conquer, That would be all saws in there stock form.
Did I tell you I have modded saws ? Did I ? Did I?

I just ordered the 441 Arctic. Being older and damaged, I opted for the better antivibe setup.

No way, a modded 7900 will eat it.

Thanks for the tip, Ben. Are there separate switches for the handles and carb?
Price, $850 with 20" bar and chain.
