Some folks wanted to know what I thought of the 440. Very likely all this stuff has been mentioned, but maybe some of you won't mind seeing it again.
Ran it and the 441 today, although not at the same time.
Some things I noticed about the 440...
It is not the same as the 441. Completely different saws.
The 440 is a fantastic saw. Quick and nimble. From felling to limbing to bucking, it is a very nice package.
When pulling the starter rope, it feels like it has higher compression over the 441.
Not near as smooth as the 441 in the cut. Notice the vibes more when idling than when in the cut. I didn't notice them at all while limbing. Blip cut, blip cut, etc.
Easier starting than the 441. 4 total pulls from dead cold, sometimes three.
The switch is a lower profile than the 441. I like the 441 switch better.
It pulls a 24" bar and full comp with authority and I'm sure would pull a lot more bar just fine.
Both saws have 7 T rims on them. The 441 seems to have a higher chain speed. What the 441 has in speed, the 440 has in "grunt."
I would buy a 440 again without hesitation. In fact, I like it better than the 441 for logging Hemlock trees.
Finally, at the end of the day today, both saws weighed exactly 98.4 lbs. :greenchainsaw:
