Maybe this has been beat up on before, but I can't remember reading it. So I have a 575 and a 7900. I paid about a hundo less for the 7900 and it seems to have more sack and it seems to weigh less even though I have never weighed either. The 575 is the smoothest saw I have ever put into a cut, this includes the 440 and 460, but I have never had the pleasure of using a 441. The strange thing about the Stihls, at least in my neck of the woods is that the 441 and 460 pretty much cost the same and I would think that I would have to get the 460 over the 440/441 for the same money. By the way my 7900 only has about 6-7 tanks of gas through it and it is getting noticeably stronger as it gets broken in. Of course none of these saws can hold a candle to my 290!:dizzy: So the question is all things considered which of these saws takes the cake. For my money the 7900 goes a long way, even though the 575 is smooth running as a Cadillac.

There are lots of threads with information about each of the saws you have mentioned. I think this is the first thread I have noticed that has them all in the title.

Of the three Stihl saws named, the 441 has superb antivibe.

The 575 has had mixed reviews.

The 7900 has more good reviews than bad written about it lately.

I made my choice of the 441/575/7900 saws based on dealer support. Looks like you have a 575 in your line-up. Are you looking for another in that class?

I wouldn't trade my 046 for the world, but I haven't run the others yet:hmm3grin2orange:

If spec sheets mean anything, the 7900 is probably more comparable to a 385 or 390 and falls somewhere between the 460 and the ill-begotten 650. Why Husqy and Stihl think they need a 390 and a 650 in their line-ups is beyond me, maybe its just to have something with a little more oomph than the 7900.;)

good to see you how you been

Well, three weeks ago I couldn't sell my soul four work, I was applying at machine shops etc. Now I am booked 3 weeks out?
But life is much better either way, makes me a lot happier being busy!!!
Thanks for asking;)

My vote is for the 441.
Welcome aboard.

Andy, glad to see things are going good for you.:givebeer:

And if you factor in the specs on wieght, it weighs less than any of the saws, other than the 440, listed!! Seems like a hec af a design in my book!!

Some days I think the smooth cutting and fuel efficient 441 would rock.

But then some days I think even the 460 hasn't the grunt I need and maybe even though it drinks the fuel, a little bit of mods and it could rock a long bar and its okay that its a thirsty saw.

I almost had my hopes up I could get a 7900 through Bailey's but that fell through...

It seems to me that the 575 drinks less than the 7900. I guess a little bit of that could be explained by the increase in displacement, but it seems to be more of a difference than that. I have a 20" on the 7900 and a 28" on the 575 and usually go where I am cutting wood with both of them sharp and fueled up. They both really make short work of the wood around here. I wish I could get both of them into some White Oak from back home and really see how well they cut. I probably wouldn't have bought the 575 if I hadn't bought it first, but the 7900 was such a good deal I couldn't turn it down. That being said I haven't had any of the problems with the 575 that other people here have complained about. Mine starts easy and stays more dust free than either the 7900 or the MS290. The only real complaint that I could make about the 290, is it seems to have a sawdust magnet in it.

+1

I've said it before on other MS290 bashing threads. Sawdust magnet is an excellent expression to describe the 290. The filter is mounted directly on the carburator which vibrates along with the engine. So I think some static force is sucking the dirt into the airfilters due to the vibrations or so... Well anyway, Husky/Johnny has the best air filtration in the industry as you have already noticed. And anti-vibe....

I havent run a 7900 yet but I have heard it is a impressive saw. I wouldnt trade my 046m dual port for anything. It always puts a smile on when I use it .
