Put a new tip in the 24" bar, much better.
Then did the next step-by-step check, removed the carb, other than an accumulation of dust around the outside of it and the mesh/screen that's part of a black plastic plate?, everything looked really nice.
So, took a breath and started removing the four little screws on the carb, and looked things over, appeared to be fine, put it back together before I forgot the orientation. Then went after the big single screw, and on the white square screen, there were sizable particles, blocking about 5% -10% of an opening. cleaned that up, put it all back together.
Went back to some willow, and did a crosscut, and a milling cut, went okay. The saw put out a deep toned, growly, burble for about 1/2 sec. , like a happy hiccup, then went back to it's usual mediocre tone.
Put on a new 32", 3/8-.063 b/c, that showed up today, and it pulled the 32" equally as well as the 24".
I realized that on a long length cut it runs out fine, and there is no way for me to leverage the saw to stall the chain. When I rock the tail back to shorten the cut length and dog in and tilt forward it is fairly easy to stall the chain, until the cut gets longer and the level bar just sinks through the round.
My expectations may have been too high, and my technique may need some tweaking.
THALL has vid of a 460, that may be a good timed cut comparison, for a general idea of what to expect.
Thanks for the help before, thought I'd give an update.
