what is the max rpm of the 460? The dolmar is 13,500 and has lots of torque. weight wise about a pound less dry. most people compare the dolmar to the 372xp but would the 460 be a better comparison? never used a 460 so cant comment but own a 650 and 7900 is not a good comparison to that saw or the 660. However owning one of three major companies i do have to say the manual for the dolmar is the best manual i have for any power equipment i own, it's like a shop manual.

p.s. when is it going to snow Dec 15 and counting

.

I run 460's and 660's. They blow away the 372's and 395's. I think all the new husky's suck except the 346xp I have 8 or 9 of them. I'm getting a 7900 and a 5100s to compare to the 460 and 346xp{I use 346 for a topping/bucket saw} I never ran a Dolmar but a freind of mine used to. I dont know what model but they blew away the old husky 42's same size and weight. He now runs 346's This was 10+ years ago.Anyway I'll let you know when they get here.

Hehe, the basic MS260 is about halv a pound lighter than the 353, or a bit more - but like you, I would take the 353 any day....:buttkick:

According to test reports by KWF/DLG, the real weight difference between the MS460 and the 7900 powerheads is less than the specs indicate, just about .1 kg, or 1/4 pound.....

what would you rather have a old 372xp, new 372xp, 460 or 7900?

i would take my 7900 hands down.:chainsaw: :chainsaw:

If we are talking stock 7900.
If we are talking woods ported without rev-limiter 372xp.

woods ported up to what cc? can you port it up to 79cc? price difference? i played with some old 372xp at the dealer seemed like a great saw. does it run 3/8? would the ported saw use more gas?

What about a modded 7900?

The modded 7900 is great, but is limited due to the rev limiter at 13,500. Only a few stock 7900 coils that didnt have the rev limiter. Running a 272 coil in the 7900 is a option, but it is a pita and I use it for my go to work saw. So i live with the limiter.
Yes alot more gas IMO.
You can get a BB 372 kit that goes to 78-79cc's or the 375K cylinder for 74.66cc's. But a 372 without rev limiter and woods ported is the fastest pump gas cookie cutter i have seen so far in the 0-80cc class. But I am limited to just started doing this. So others can correct me and chime in.

anyone know the dry weight of a 460 with big bore kit and other presumed mods (muffler.....) what the final cc numbers would be?

Around 82.?? cc's i think. Maybe a 1-2 cc more then that, not sure. Would guess weight would be the same. SRN has a BB modded 046. Maybe he can clue you in.

Probably about 82.4 cc, based on Jred 2083 vs 2077.........

The big bore 372xp is 76.5 cc, like the original 460 and 2077, I believe ( same stroke on all these).

372

How can you guys even be comparing the 372 to the 7900 or the 460? The 460 is at 6hp and the 7900 is at 6.3 while the 372 is at a mere 5.5hp. That's more like a 440 range. It's not fair to compare a saw that much smaller to ones with almost 1 full hp more than that little guy. The husky guys in here can say what they will about how fast their little 372's are, but fact of the matter, slap a 28" bar on it and go to work on some big hardwood and it'll puke and burn up, or you'll have to hold up on it the entire time cutting so it doesn't die out in the bigger hardwood. For your answer, the 7900 is comparable to the MS650, with only .2hp difference, this is by spec ONLY. The 372 is down with the 440/441, although the stihl will eat it up in the bigger wood. I know this for a fact because we've tried them side by side. As Stang posted in the other thread the 7900 will run on the heels of the 660, and it will no doubt. Matter of fact, if you want a comparison, compare a 390xp to a 7900, that'd be a more fair comparison. The 7900 and the 460 are no joking matter bro. The fools will tell you their stock 372's will outcut them, tell'em to break'em out side by side and like the old days, you give it to'em if they win or vice versa. Bring your 7900 and you'll have a couple free 372's in no time buddy. 372's are a good saw, don't get me wrong, but they won't cut with the big boys...:jawdrop:

what about a modded 372 or big bore 460? i was really comparing money for power, is it better and cheaper to buy a 460 plus mod it to hell or run a 7900. i own both 650 and 7900 and i think my 650 will beat my 7900 not easy but she would win.

Dude we were talking about all out woods ported 372 in small wood racing. Stock 7900 all day for the big wood. 460 not even in my thoughts.
Also better ask stang why he races modded 372's in the small wood too. not the 7900's.

I sort of agree, but the power ratings and ccs don't tell the whole story......

...as an exemple, in smaller wood it is very important how the saw keep the torque up above max power rpms, and that vary a lot.....

First off, the 046/460 is a good saw. There is nothing wrong with the 460, but I feel that the 7900 is a better, more powerful saw. The 7900 is my go to saw in the woods. It is a great saw with a ton of power, probably more powerful/versatile than the 372...

Now the 372's, I love them, probably my first favorite saw. They mod a whole lot better than a 7900, from what i have been told. Although, CUT4fun has a mean running 7900 that is very fast.

There is a ton of potential in the 371/372/375 series cylinders. My 375xp was modded by Woodsjunkie and it will smoke a stock 660/066 IN SMALL WOOD. It is not meant to go to the woods with a 36" bar, although the 372 is very capable of running longer bars with a propper woods port. Mine is borderline woods saw, and I choose not to take it to the woods and hurt it. It is more of a play toy, lol.

Stock worksaw, the 7900 is my favorite. it is an unbelievable saw that only people that own them know how awesome they really are. The 460 and 372 are really great saws too, but i prefered a mild woods port 372 over a 460 before I ever had a 7900.

Clear as mud? Thought so. They are all great saws in their own right, people that like to push hard on the saw will probably prefer the 7900, 460 then the 372 in that order, but if you let them do the work, the 7900 and 372 are quicker in stock form, from my experience.

still no one is tackling the idea of a full moded 460 big bore setup, against the others, weight plus power = 7900? cost though:monkey:

I built a nice BB046 that Sawinredneck has. That saw runs really well for a woods saw. it isn't the fastest saw on the face of the earth, but it was built to be a worksaw and run 28-32" bar in hardwoods. I hear Dean at WHS builds a mean BB460 too.

It all depends what you want to do with it...You already have a 7900, and buying a new 460 to have a BB kit installed seems like a lot of extra money to me.

I never compared times to the BB046 and the 7900, but like I said, it all depends what you want to do with them. lol
