Nope nothing to Chew,
AJ Logger is a diehard Stihl Man and I respect that.
Around here loggers are or have switched to Husky I can understand Why.
Neither of us throw our hard earn money around on new gismos.
Nuff said.

Yes I am for a couple of reasons. I've ran a few other saws tho'. However you can't deny that Stihl is the king in saws. I know people will say, "but Husky is the largest manufacturer of power equipment." Well yes maybe, because they also sell mowers, and other things that Stihl does not sell. But, when you look at chainsaws, concrete cutoff saws, Sthl is the #1 seller. Not manufacturer, SELLER. Husky has a reputation no doubt. But I laugh because Husky has bought out virtually all competition to get their technology, they sell to everybody and their brother, but they still can't outsell Stihl who just sells to dealers and is still family owned. People may have switched in your area, but I bet a lot of people have put down their Husky for Stihl also. I know I did. :givebeer:

Actually, I have never seen you being that nice to a dedicated Stihlhead.....

I am neither - nor, so I won't take part in a general brand war....:greenchainsaw:

Yeah

I agree with Ajlogger. I use nothing but stihl and most of the tree services in this area use stihl also. I have tried Huskavarna and Jonsered and go back to Stihl every time. I haven't tried any big bore kits I have seen others do this type of thing and sure there saws are loud and fast but usually they dont last that long. As for weight i don't know the specs but for weight i could never tell a deference, Hell i have been using a 066 since i was 16.

Other companies make a good saw, but man i love Stihl. Plus there name is the coolest.

hmmm.
7900 needs an 8 tooth wheel to cut fast in the west.
I only use the 8T on the 20" and under, dont have a 24" to try with. But run the 7T on anything above the 20" like when using the 32". Just playing safe and dont want to put undo strain with the bigger bars buried. Oh, on the 7900 and 066.

woods ported up to what cc? can you port it up to 79cc? .....

Porting is not about increasing the cc count, but modifying the porting, to get more power out of the existant ones.....

Waiting for my evening gun hunt myself manual, cut safe.
You know you always got to watch out for the cheerleaders, they can be a B----- bunch. LOL.

Now brother Manual, I just like to have fun. When it comes down to it I don't care what saw I have as long as I can still cut.

I'll probably get some neg. reputation points for this but..... I'm amused when I hear people say 372 will beat 044 or 046 in small wood but..... or put a big bore kit on brand "A" and man she'll fly. You guys must have more money than God because I can't go out and buy a $800 saw and then spend another $300 for a couple holes in the muffler and a oversize piston and cylinder just to get a second or two faster in the cut and then compare it to a smaller saw and say WOW! she's fast. Now I don't own a Dolmar, but it seems to me two things are going to happen. For one It seems they are trying to build their company from two models of saws, 5100, 7900, they won't last. Also I just have a suspicion that these saws won't hold up either. I just bet that in 3 yrs of use these saws will start having problems. They won't hold up like Stihl or Husy. And I don't think Husky holds up near as well as Stihl. (just my expierence)

I agree with Cisco that in any wood big or small hard or soft that the Sthl will cut consistant. Lots more forgiving in the powerband. My 044 cuts the same weather it's ash, hedge, locust, walnut, etc. and it never bogs even when buried with a 25" bar. Husky a little different story, seems you have to coddle it in certain wood. (just my expierence) And I will probably be still using the same 044 with no probems another 7-9 yrs from now. ( it is about 7 yrs. old now.) I guess I just like a saw that as soon as you get it, it runs great and cuts great and will last. Alright you can kick my a@% now.

Not going to neg ya for speaking you're mind, but I am going to disect this post a bit.

There is no doubt of the greatness of the 372, and yes, it should be compared to the 440 or the 7300, but the 7900 cost the same, or cheaper, and weighs the same, so thats a moot point, isn't it?

Now the Big Bore kit, if you followed me at all, a BB 460 is what I have wanted all along (same as a Husky 353, I got the 346 instead) I wanted the power of the 660 without the weight. My dealer quoted me (I believe) $850 for the 460 and $1032 for the 660. My saw was used (very) and rough around the edges. It was offerd to me me two ways, and when I was told what it would cost withe the BB kit, I jummped all over it!! I got that saw for considerbly less that what I could have bought a new 460 for!! So when I say buy a saw for a BB kit, I guess I need to be more specific, find a used one and update it. That keps it affordable. I could have bought my saw as was for around $400 shipped to my door, deals are out there.

On the Husky line up, I would buy a 50cc Husky long before I bought a Stihl in the same class. But, with the 5100, that seems to be another moot point!

I don't have any idea of the longevityof the Dolmars, the older stuff seems o be holing up fine, I am more concerned about the dealers backing out again and geting parts for them.

I'm done,
Andy

Good post redneck. You were SRN in short, that I was refering to in the 1st page. Show them the 2 vids of your BB046.

again, i'm out west cutting softer wood.
i'm running the 8 tooth on the 28 inch bar, and cut the rakers back to .030, and she runs sweet.

with the 7 tooth, i had to grind the rakers off entirely (unsafe), or put about 100 pounds of down pressure on the saw to get it to work the engine properly.

otherwise she just bounced along on the rev limiter......

I never herd of such a thing. 7 tooth runs the chain slower and your chain does not good enough untill you take the rakers off.
