461 stihl?

Do anyone on this forum know about stihl releasing a new stihl 460 (461), any info would be appreciable...

Only rumors - no facts. Maybe a year or more, or, much more if they can get away with burning 4-mix epa credits. Europe might speed things up as they recently adopted the same type standards as the EPA, but with no provision for credts.

Yah I've heard late 08 as a rumor but nothing more.

Talked to the Stihl representative about a month ago at the Ligna fair in hannover, Germany. No 461 or 261 coming up in the next year. First saw out will be the 211 followed by 171 and 181.

Makes sense - get EPA credits (USA) on the volume saws... and apply them to the bigger saws..

Our lead mechnic who recently attended Stihl gold training in Virgina Beach, VA was told that sometime in winter/spring 2008 the 441 will become a 442. The 361 will become a 362. Also, over the next 10 years or so all of Stihl's saws will have a stratified engine of some sort. He also heard rumors that in a few years, the 880 will eventually become a 881. During his training at Virgina Beach, he seen some 4 mix prototype saws that Stihl was testing.

What do you mean by "stratified" engine? I don't know that term.

In Laymen terms, it blows a shot of fresh air through to remove exhaust gases... not a fuel air mixture....

...at least thats how I understand it.

i've recently heard norwegians will not be so lucky to get a stihl 461, there will be no 461 to fill the gap betw 441 and 660. :bang:

I wonder what the difference will be between 441 and 442. Ignition?

Who really knows... (except Stihl). Might just be model name realignment or some minor change for more epa complience..

The model changes are mostly for EPA complience. That's the story I heard.

Also, rumor has it that Stihl is exploring/experimenting with a direct fuel injected chainsaw. I don't know if there's any truth to that though. Just like I heard a rumor that Stihl was going to discontinue the 880. Only, Stihl knows what's going to happen.
