5100s fuel tank vent

I bought a brand new 5100s today and tried it out right away. It would run good for about 5 min then act like it was out of gas. I would fool around with it then it would run for another 5 min or so. Finally i realized if I opened the gas cap it would hiss air then run great for awhile. I'm sure the vent is plugged and my dealer will fix the problem, but I want to cut tomorrow and Sunday. Has anyone else had this problem? Is the vent in the cap? Any info would be appreciated.

Not sure, but hope this can be resolved by sunday. I want to run it and appease the chainsaw gods when I come over.

Take it back to your dealer... even if it is "just" a fuel vent. Don't run it unless you are really sure you are getting enough gas.

Are you sure the "hiss" in sucking, or is it just expelling excess fuel pressure? My saws also "hiss", but it is the later..

I took my 5100 back to dealer today and he gave me a different new saw!! I did not expect that. I know my next saw will definitely be 7900 with service like that.

If you like the 5100 then you'll love the 7900. I do like the 5100 and love the 7900. The 7900 just knows what to do with wood.
