Why the new grey clutch cover on some of the huskys?

It seems like it was to just shake things up a bit. They actually serve a purpose with regard to identifying new revisions of old saws; you can easily tell a NE and OE 346 apart by the clutch cover. Simiarly, the 575 and 576, which both look basically the same, can be told apart real quickly just by the clutch cover.

Some seem to like them, some hate them.

Does anybody have any speculation on whether or not the carb will adjust correctly with a muffler mod? I am also a little concerned about anything that is computer controlled when it comes to longevity. I think that if I could afford it, I would be tempted to pass on the auto tune in favor of the XP until the autotune has been proven a little more.

...... The Echo has the best published certifications of the three on the bottles that I have in hand. If the others meet these certifications then why dont they print it on the bottle,it dont take much ink? Think of it like h.p. ratings and weight, if you've beaten your competitor with it your proud to display it.............
REJ2

yes, but some don't believe published, independent tests.........

Husky XP mix is Jaso FD. Stihl Ultra is Jaso FB. Stihl believes that the Jaso tests are not applicable/indicative of performance within Chainsaws because the Jaso test looks at motorcycles. We know at this point that echo is all about the ratings, and numbers. Look at their engines--they have everything 300 hr certified.

It's all good stuff. Husky, Stihl, Jonsered, Dolmar, Echo...they're all putting out a good quality mix oil.

It's my understanding that the mix oil sold by the major OPE brands is manufactured by third parties anyhow, so to argue the point of Stihl oil vs. Husky oil vs. Echo oil is relatively moot.

Probably the same oil going into different bottles for some brands.

.....

And now for the question of utmost importance...

What should I feed it?

Aspen premixed alkylate fuel, if you can get it there........:)

Congrats on the saw! :)

Beauty Saw!!!! I like how the 576 has the snap lock top cover, not just the quick access to the filter. I never really noticed before, but I wonder why they have decided to only go with a single inner dawg?

Please, no more oil posts, for the sake of my sanity!

Now back to our regularly scheduled program: how does the auto-tune work? What is the mechanism by which the carburetor "adapts" to different conditions?

Husky, Echo and Dolmar oils are all blended and bottled by Spectrum Corp for North America.
Stihl is bottled by Omni Speciality Packaging to a BP spec, although it seems Stihl also bring some BP blended Ultra in, or have done in the past from Europe, according to the MSDS's I've seen. (BP don't have their own blending/bottling facilities in NA, it's all outsourced)

As for the JASO specs being only relevant to MC's, the later FC and FD specs mainly relate to better cleanliness and detegency over and above the FB spec.
I'm just guessing Stihl couldn't be bothered with the test, as you have to submit the oil to the JASO, pay your Yen and get it tested and lets face it, manufacturer testing in their own power plants is usually tougher than an industry test going by heavy diesel oils.

{edit} sorry for prolonging the oil BS fella's

Any oil will work, even the wal-mart cheap stuff. The saw doesn't care as long as it's mixed right.
The difference is in the livability. Can you stand the smell if you run the saw for more than a few minutes? I'm telling you now that if you run it all day, the smell of the stuff matters. Amsoil and most of the rest smells like burning crap. The Klotz, Ipone, and Polaris VES Gold all smell way better. The VES gold smells like candy. Try it, your nose will agree.

Good points and one of the reasons I won't use Castrol TTS/Power 1 Racing/whateverit'scalledinyourpartoftheworld anymore. It gave me headaches that Motul 800 2T doesn't.

What oil do you all run?

Oh wait wasn't this thread about a pretty new saw with auto tune? I too would like to know more about how this works.

Can you say :arg:

Oil threads are like car threads. Everybody has an opinion and they all run. Let's drop the oil crap and get back to the 576. I say again, "does anybody have any speculation as to how this saw will perform with a mod"? I think longevity and performance are far more important than which oil you use.

Most oil will work. Synthetic is better than petroleum-fact. Run what you want, but lets get back to the saw!

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm told the 576 Auto Tune can be hooked up to a computer for diagnostics. I would imaging the settings can be changed via that method.

Why would you want to mod it? I mean, I know all the testicular reasons, but the saw is a hell of a performer stock. Modding it will void the warranty.
