I haven't seen it yet, but I'm told the 576 Auto Tune can be hooked up to a computer for diagnostics. I would imaging the settings can be changed via that method.

Why would you want to mod it? I mean, I know all the testicular reasons, but the saw is a hell of a performer stock. Modding it will void the warranty.

If it ends up working well, perhaps the carburetor and computer interface module can be swapped into older saws. I'd like to have a self-tuning saw!

I was hoping that by now the OP would have opened up the top cover and perhaps taken some pictures of the mechanism.

Any oil will work, even the wal-mart cheap stuff. The saw doesn't care as long as it's mixed right.
The difference is in the livability. Can you stand the smell if you run the saw for more than a few minutes? I'm telling you now that if you run it all day, the smell of the stuff matters. Amsoil and most of the rest smells like burning crap. The Klotz, Ipone, and Polaris VES Gold all smell way better. The VES gold smells like candy. Try it, your nose will agree.

Completely wrong!

The cheap oil should not be used in these high RPM engines. Much of this stuff has plenty of dubious claims on the labels, some of them from standards/organizations which haven't existed for 15 years.

You're right about the smell though. Some are pretty good. :)
