Yes, they are electrically heated via a 'generator/coil' off the flywheel. Electrical wires are run thru the handles.
Note the rectangular mold mark to the right of the rear handle. Mirror position of the On/Off switch.
That's where the Heated Handle On/Off switch is located.

Think heated handles, and even the new "Vibe Ban" chains by Oregon are great comfort, and safety items.
As already known due to vibration, capillaries constrict.
Add cold weather.
Add the aging process.
All reduce blood flow thru our hands.
Heated handles, warm the hands/fingers for comfort, but often overlooked is the Safety aspects of being able to use thinner gloves, and having hands/fingers that are more naturally flexible, and can hold, and "sense" the handles and controls.
Making cutters safer.

Rumor has it that in late '04, an 'air conditioned' (blower fan) will be intro'd, that blows clean, cool fresh air towards the cutters face/neck.

I dont suppose youm have a idea on how much it would cost to retrofit the heathandles?

Redmax already has a BP blower that does this.

The handles themselves probably wouldn't be too bad to replace, but the guts that move the electrons to power them might be another story. Think different flywheel and additional stator stuff...

Are your hands cold already, Ben?

Forgot to mention, (comes with age & marriage), Dolmar has for years had a simple "Summer/Winter" air control set up.
It's FREE with the saw, since it's built in.
A special port in the cylinder top cover that has a removable plug, flat plate, or in the PS9010 a simple knob you turn.
This opens or closes a hole that allows heated air comming off the cylinder to warm inducted carb air, and also melts snow.
Warm tempature, simply close it off.
No special wires, plates, extra add on costs.

yes. there is a inch of snow on the ground at the moment and I may have a allo winter long cutiing job hence my inquiry.

I am aware of this feature. Stihl has the same sort of thing. The only problem is that when you oppen the winter hole up it allows mucho chips/dust to enter the filter area. Had this happen on a 036. This really would defeat the excellant air filtration setup on the 7900 and overwelm the small filter rapidly I would think.

Your right in that one could easily think that could happen, but Dolmar's Air Master is set up quite differently than the Stihl, so it works.

Note, the far right location of the heated air vents, and the air flow channel. Helps to keep the flow of heavier particles/chips moving past the vent holes.

Remember, in Winter, or cold weather there is less dust/dirt in the air.

Very glad to hear of your positive comments.
