I watched a YT vid and replaced the control board in my Whirlpool oven..4 years later its still cooking.

Youtube had such promise, and then google found a way to commercialize it, and here we are.
95% of the good content on YT would disappear if it wasn't commercialized. Double edged sword, but ultimately for the better I think.

YouTube and its content don't exist for "your benefit". Same with Facebook and most everything else you consume but don't pay for. Kind of like any source of information, it's best to not trust a singular one. Sometimes you just gotta brain a little bit.
I found a lot of useful info on youtube but it's buried between a bunch of useless videos, you have to search for it.
I've saved a ton of money on repairs over the years because of youtube. IE I've rebuilt a few dirt bike shocks and forks, fixed running lights in honda cars for free and snorkeled atvs for a few bucks instead of hundreds buying a "kit".
I went down the chainsaw porting rabbit hole, there's some good info on youtube and a ton of bad with that one lol. Pro tip on that subject on youtube, the guys with dyno runs are legit, copy their work.

As stated, theres tons of useful info on YT, before that was internet forums.
The stuff that drives me mad on YT are the people doing something for the first time, but explaining it to you like they are teaching you.
Oh, and the guys just blowing holes in their saw mufflers and saying it runs better. lol I know a bit about 2 strokes and just "making the exhaust flow" is not always the answer. Many of those vids you hear it bog like a clapped out 30 y/o dirtbike.

I'm amazed at how strongly people defend their "collective hive wisdom", and how this somehow trumps literal decades of experience.
Someone just told me I'm stupid for dishwashing my knives. I ask "how?", he points to a website. I explain to him I've been dishwashing my knives for literal decades and throw them all into the same drawer. Wheenie guy freaks out and calls me dumb "you're so stupid you don't dishwash knives".
Then he tells me my knives are "mid". Ok, then I explain to him "but they survive decades of dishwashing, I think my knives are better than your knives".
"No you're so stupid, so dumb, you don't put knives in the dishwasher, your knives are bad"
Yeeesh; and then I got banned from the discord server. A discussion about knives.
They really are going to consume themselves at some point.
