I think the reason they mod is to get the most power out of a smaller saw so there is less weight to carry around during the day.
Makes sense to me.
The big stuff a Stihl 660, not so big of stuff a 460. Nothing stock of course.
How does the 660's mod out i'm waiting for my 660 back from Dean.Hope it cuts like my 880 i don't like lugging that thing around all day.

It just seems to have a bit more Grunt,,,, down low,,should be a stump eatin Beotch,,,again!!!!! pretty much left the port timing alone compared to the first one you ran @ Triangle OPE show,,,it's just got lotz wider ports for more Torque,,,,, with a smidge of advance on the intake port timing Plus Its got fresh rings & a lightly honed cylinder so let me put about 5 tanks through it and get the muffler right and Ill let ya know when we can hook up Ill bring them both and the 044/460 BB Stage III + Dean and I built while I was up PNW,,, Gonna do feature thread on that saw soon as all the plastic is right,,,Your gonna $h_t Your pants when ya run that one
talk about lightweight Power!!!! :chainsawguy:
The first one is me limbing up a tree with Castle Crags and Mount Shasta in the back ground. The tree to my left is not near as close as it looks.
Second the is Erickson Air Crane flying logs from my strip last year in Paradise, Ca. Some big un's. Had to buck short log's in most of my strip.
The third is me rippping some of the logs in my strip with an old 084 AV with a 6 foot Cannon bar- they were too big even for the Air Crane to fly.
