here is a stump from a job in VW. the saw is a 660 with 20''bar and the rotella is my gass. I eouldent make a levle back cut cause there was earth in the way. this tree was a double that forked about 3 feet up so i kept wood in the middle, just alittle on each side of the hing and a post in the back so i could snip and dip to keep things safe.

What do you think??

Honestly, I would have cut them seperate since it had to be butted off anyhow, left a high stump. Seems like a lot of work boring out the face and all for a piece of waste wood. Intersting thought on leaving a little heart, but how'd you know what it was holdong to- I know your dealing with an included bark stem, and when one goes before you're ready, that can spell disaster, or atleast a bad lay or hanger or something.

But, glad you posted the picks, and snip and dip is a-ok for lingo, and practices- safe escapes make for more good times. Thanks for posting the pics, I'll try and get to that one day.

I tried to PM you but it wouldn't let me. Now I see it says banned. There you go again pissing off all the nice people.

Agree with Hammer,I took an ash down this past winter that was a double fork at about 3' off the ground.Took my time putting a nice notch in it,start cutting my back cut and CRASH right fork is on the ground!!!! Wasn't grown together like I thought!!!!
Now I take each fork separately if I can, then if I don't want to let a high stump(which I really hate to see)I come back and cut it lower!! Takes more time but safer, imo.

You never know what may be hidden in the fork. My parents had a couple doubles, triples, one had five leads, on our property. Each of the oaks contained rocks buried in the hart of the tree, where the splits occurred.

they seperated nicely when they hit so I didnt have to butt them off, just trimmed some excess wood off the sides.

Alot of times with a double I will cut them seperat but that one looked like a good candidate for a one gun show.

If I had it to do over I would have faced it three inches higher to keep the back cut flush & level.

Did anyone notice the faced up tree in the far top left? I just did,

O ya, I got banned for sayin phone #s. Didnt know you couldnt do that.
What I dont get is how does trimmed know if I had consent or not??
