Oh,I forgot a story. This happened in 1962,close to Lancaster Pa. I worked the summers,on a sheep dipping rig[ no kidding ,real good money, for the time],and we had pulled into an immaculate dairy farm,to do some work. The milking parler was set up with new Surge[brand name] automatic milking machines, with a bulk system, and refrigeration. The milkers were operated from vacuum pumps, driven by Briggs and Straton engines, and the chiller, was a reworked Thermo-King unit, from a reefer truck. In the hay field was a brand new,New Holland ,engine driven bailer, being pulled by a giant pair of Belgians.I remember it,like it was yesterday. :)

So you were born in Fredricktown? What year? How long
did you live there?
My grandfather managed the Foote foundry in the 40s.

The whole county is almost totally owned by Kokosing now.

1948,moved in 1951.My father was a tool maker at Cooper -Bessemer,in Mt Vernon.Still have relatives, through out Knox county.I have an uncle,in Gambier, who has delt with the Amish folks all his life.He can tell some interesting stories about the clever ways they do things .Kokosing,is in fact a large land owner. You can see those orange trucks, about any place in the state,on highway jobs.Another,is a man by the name of Small, who has leases on nearly every bit of sand and gravel,in the county[Knox county Ohio,is on the edge of the glacial ridge, left from the second ice age]The hilly portion of the county, would make a timber buyer think he was in seventh heaven.Giant white oak, straight as a pool cue,40,or more ft,to the first limb.Walnut, and cherry as well .I'm not sure, but I think there is a mill,in Danville, where the Amish men use big draft horses to haul the logs around.

Wish you hadn't gone there about the timber, Lambert is
probably on the way.
I remember going on mushroom hunts in the spring in the
woods.

I also made a post, some time ago, about a timber buyer as being as welcomed on the average farm,as a horse thief[no offense intended].Those folks,as well as the ones in this part of the big corn field, have had the screws put to them,so often, that it would take cash,up front, and a lot of it.Logging a woods,in Ohio,is a once in a life time thing, normally. The next generation,is forgetfull.Parts of Ohio, subscibe to the "good ole boys"network,in other words,if you're not in,you are not in.

When I lived North of Mio the little amish boys used to line up at the fence when we had baby goats......it was very stange..... they would stop coming over once the goats started to get teeth. I thought things like that only happened in Kentucky.

Yea,Buck,it's an Hp,a free one,I might add[ Ford model e-program].Originaly 733,upgraded to 1.1.It's now in the custidy of my wife.The one I have now,is a custom built 2.something,and is a lot better.It has a zillion "bows and whistles",that I haven't a clue,what to do with .[gear head,you know] :dizzy:
