Second, what was the purpose behind the design of the bow saw? They look like they would be very awkward to use.

I think you can see bow saws in action on youtube.com. I know I have seen videos here when members post pictures after a GTG.

I agree. I'v never seen a blue SW77 before. Only red/black and red/green. The blue ones that I've seen were the SW55 and SW66. Can you shoot a pic of the MN/SN tag?

That's really cool. Never seen a red Super 77. I've got one here that's not quite so nice. Has had a 'custom' paint job applied some time in its life.

Very nice I wish mine had a full wrap handle. At least the paint job wasn't very good, it looks like it is peeling nicely.

I went back and looked at the BLK IPL that I sent you and it is no help at all:frown: Normally the IPL's help but that one is sure poor. I will see what I can figure out. I know when a Canadian freind was here in 2008 we completely disassembled a BLK in what seemed like a matter of minutes. Maybe I will remember something when I look at it again.

It kinda looks like it might unscrew. What do those two screws hold on?

So your saying you are working on one of these BL's? If so cool.

Well I have to admit I completely missed it was a BL and not a BLK, Stupid me I will have to pull my BL out and take a look

According to the IPL, the flywheel is keyed and tightened by a rather special nut, that does not ressemble yours really. I think that top brown hex nut is not standard, but I am not sure.
Just one way to find out.....I guess.

PS. The BL is one of my favourite saws....sweet !

The two screws remaining in the flywheel are holding that horizontal shiny plate to the circular flywheel that houses the magnets. I tried to remove one of them,but seemingly it's held fast by a thread locking compound as it won't budge.
If this arrangement is unoriginal then someone has gone to a tremendous amount of trouble to put it in this order.
Marshall T. seems to think it is a sort of "self-puller", but admits he's never worked on a BL. I think he's right, otherwise it is unneccessarily complicated.
I'm gonna have another round with it today.................................Y'all keep your fingers crossed that I don't ruin it. And if I get it off, one of you guys send me that 1954 Stihl coil you've got in your wife's jewelry box!
