Last night dirty jobs did some logging. Mike was invited into the bush with two "professional loggers" to cut selected trees and skid them out with mules. I did not see anyone wearing any PPE including Mike when they handed him the "100cc Stihl" and let him go to work. After the trees were dropped they were hooked to a pair of unruly mules who skidded them out to the truck. I must admit that I found it very entertaining!

I watch Dirty Jobs all the time, and was shocked at the lack of PPE,and the general unprofessional behavior of the "loggers" that they chose to do the show with. How Mike Rowe didn't hurt himself while trying to start the saw was a miracle in itself. It's also amazing nobody was seriously hurt by the mules.

I thought it was pretty good. It was refreshing to watch one of his shows without a fecal matter undertone and silly little crap jokes being thrown around.

I saw no chaps, no lesson on kickback, not much safety stuff at all!! However, it was very entertaining watching those boys hitch up dem mules!!!

I was very surprised when they just handed mike the saw and told him to stop cutting when it started to bind and finish from the bottom. I was gritting my teeth watching the tip of the bar dance while he tried to keep it under control.

As "dirty jobs" shows go, I rate that one as right down in the sewer. I didnt' see one scene where there wasn't gross stupidity on display. As to the mules, they need to given to a trainer and learn how to _be_ a team. Even allowin for some 'staging' of scenes it was outrageous. I kept wondering during the falling scene if there weren't guy rigging on the tree, if there wasn't Osha should be issuing a big fine...well, come to think about it, they should issue a big fin for every scene in the show.

Who liked how he/they cut the tree? Not me! Looks like they need Major GOL training.:help: :deadhorse: ;) Who else liked the 100 cc 660. They are only 8.4cc's off. I also think he needed some PPE. That 660 was beggin for mercy.

I saw it too

Iwas thinking allthe same things . I guess never really of my self as a safe guy but I would never do some of these things on a jobsite . These guys do it on camera , how long till Mike get hurt bad . Just last week I saw him riding in a skid loader bucket . Anybody has ever been on a big jobsite knows this diffent no no .

PPE and common sense is for girls and sissies...

Now if you'll excuse me, Im going to go stop some chainsaw chain with my genitals...:hmm3grin2orange:

Don't forget the missing handguard (chainbrake lever) that alone would have had those yahoos tossed off any job around here.

I tried to go to the discovery channel's website and e-mail mike a link to this thread. I couldn't do it. Maybe someone a little more computer literate could let mike and the crew see our opinions.

My father-in-law has a funny story about this. Only funny because no blood was spilled.

He calls it his marriage license story. He was a carpenter and had just gotten married the month before.

He was cutting some flooring pieces with a circ saw, kneeling on the floor perpendicular to the cut. He finished the cut and set the saw down on the floor next to him. Unbeknownst to him, the blade guide didn't slide back down to cover the still spinning down blade. When the blade hit the floor, it kicked back and went right across the front of his crotch - remember, he was kneeling down. The saw blade went right across the front of him and cut through his denim jeans, his longjohns but not the briefs underneath.

"And that's how I almost lost my marriage license"...

Can't say for sure they didn't have any hearing protection, but the though of handing a 660 to a rookie scares me a lot. Maybe Mike has a little chainsaw operating experience. A lot of that stuff ddin't look safe, least of all those mules. You gotta admit that's a good way to get logs out of a tight place without tearing up the forest floor. Nothing new, just the way it was done before all the heavy equipment. I wonder if mules can be better behaved than that or if that's just how they are. This was no real professional logger outfit, these were a couple of gypo, good ole boys from Tenessee. Say what you like, it would have been nice if they were a little more safety conscious but no one got hurt and they put every tree right where they wanted it...had a good load of logs at the end of the day. They arent rank amateurs, they must be doing something right.
