Anyone had any experience contracting with FEMA?

I got an offer today to subcontract for FEMA. At least the guy that called says he is with FEMA, my guess is he is a primary contractor. He is with some big outfit from Michigan. Pay is not bad but I have heard horror stories from a lot of guys who went down to Katrina to work for primary FEMA contractors and never got paid...

Thoughts/experience?

I still get those calls from time to time. He doesn't work for fema, I doubt he is even the prime contractor, usually they busy that go around calling tree services outa the blue are 2+ tiers away from the prime contractor. Never worked for anyone other then the prime contractor before but I met plenty of guys who never got paid when they were way down the food chain.
Do your homework, find out. Exactly who he is, who he works for and who has the contract. Dont do anywork until you have a contract (of course make sure its a good contract).
disaster work is a tricky game, make sure you know what your getting into

Yea, the fact that he told me he was with FEMA when I questioned him about what outfit he was with threw up a red flag for me. His boss is supposed to be calling later on this afternoon and faxing some paperwork for me to look over. We'll see what the contract looks like and who it is with. I really wasn't wanting to do any subbing but wouldn't mind doing some in my down time if it is on the level.
